We’ve had a Soda Stream for several years and we use it often. When we first got it, we bought a bunch of the Soda Stream syrups and none of those were big hits but lately we’ve tried a few things . . like making our own root beer syrup or adding prickly pear syrup, or adding cranberry juice and simple syrup . . just a few concoctions that we like better than the storebought syrups.
This week, at some point, I remembered the pineapple soda from Borden’s. Borden’s was a dairy in Lake Charles and in the front area, they had an ice cream shop and we would get malts, shakes, sundaes and whatever ice cream related item we wanted. It was always a treat for our parents to take us to Borden’s either on a Friday or Saturday evening. One of my favorite things was a pineapple soda so I figured we could re-create it with the Soda Stream.
With a little carbonated water, a few spoonfuls of simple syrup, some crushed pineapple (from a can) and some vanilla ice cream, I took a trip back in time . . maybe 50 years ago . . and had a yummy homemade pineapple soda1

OMGosh…I haven’t thought about Borden’s in many years….my Aunt and Uncle owned a Bordan’s dairy in Antioch CA….I spent the summer in the ranch and loved to go to the dairy next door……what fun summers we had as kids….

We have a Soda Stream too. I usually drink mine plain or with a little lemon or cranberry. Pineapple is a neat idea. My husband is a Mountain Dew lover. It seems they are going to quit making the syrup for that. Not sure what he will wind up using. Where do you swap your canisters? So far we have been swapping ours at Bed Bath and Beyond. It is about 25 miles from where we live. They have told us that they are phasing out the large canisters and will only do the small ones. Just curious if you have any other ideas. Thanks!

My boyfriend and I use to go to that Borden’s after church on Sunday night. We would get ice-cream for us and his grandmother. Then we would go to her house and watch Lawrence Welk with her. The only place better was the Creamery at A&M when I was in grad school.

I remember that Borden’s. It was a big hit after a movie date on Saturday night.

Now that sounds yummy! I rarely have a soda of any kind, but pineapple is a favorite of mine, and it’s been a long time since I had some – we used to get them from Mexico when we lived in Phoenix.
