Nicole had sent me a picture of a pillow mat that she saw that she liked and I googled it and was going to make one. I knew it wouldn’t be hard to make but all the patterns/instructions I saw had you fold a 60″ piece of fabric so that you were making a “pocket” in the back and then the pillows were inserted through that slit type opening.
I detest poking pillows through those type openings and won’t even buy a pillow sham that has that kind of opening so I figured I could make something similar to a pillowcase but bigger and here’s what I made.
They could be made wider using queen sized pillows but these are just regular sized pillows.
One pillow can be folded back to make a chaise lounge type mat. I’m going to make another one using more kid fabric. For the first one, I didn’t want to waste any of the kid themed fabric I have because I have so little of it, and I have plenty (as in several bolts) of this Americana type fabric.
It turned out as expected so now I’ll go make the real one for Addie .. using sheep fabric. My choices in fabric, without buying more fabric, was sheep, Berenstain bears or longhorn cows! Nicole thinks she will like sheep so . . sheep it is!
The best part . . that’s fabric to add to my stash report . . lots of fabric! 🙂

So how did you make it so the pillows stay in. I tried to see if I could figure it out but I couldn’t.

I love your clever variation on this pillow mat. I am planning to make a couple of these for Christmas and now I have a new idea of how to do it. Thanks for sharing!

Is this like a sleeping mat or what? Not sure what it’s for?

It’s for whatever she wants it to be for. She can lay on the floor and watch TV, or prop it up against a wall or the sofa and have a chaise lounge of sorts. She can lay it on the floor and lay on it while she works a puzzle on the floor. I’m guessing the first couple of nights she has it, she may want to sleep on it.

Cute. I’ve never seen these before. Is it one wide pillowcase with seams as pockets to slip in the pillows OR individual pillowcases and joined together after each pillowcase was sewn? Such a clever idea and that fabric is great!! It would make great QOV pillowcases.

I love it. I do hope you will give a few more instructions. I too am interested in your construction approach.
