Without the yarn reports, you haven’t heard much about my yarn buying lately. I would say it’s been moderately curtailed, though it has definitely continued. Depending on what type sales gimmicks The Loopy Ewe and Eat, Sleep, Knit come up with for 2016, I’d like to say I won’t be buying much yarn but I know how I am and I know you’ve heard that song before so . . I’m not even going to say it again.
Eat, Sleep, Knit’s Yarnathon this year has been so much fun. It’s nice that we can earn quite a few points without even having to buy new yarn. With The Loopy Ewe’s Camp Loopy and Loopy Academy . . 3 projects in the fall and spring semesters and 3 projects for Camp Loopy, that’s 9 new projects each year!
All those things make it hard to get any of the knitting in my queue done . . just trying to keep my head above water with keeping up with the projects from those two shops so I may do things differently next year . . or I may not.
Pretty much all my sweater quantity yarn, and a portion of my other yarn is listed in my Ravelry Stash. The yarn stash is similar to my fabric stash in that I really love almost everything in there.
Last night I counted up how many sweaters I can make from the yarns that have sweater quantities and based on how many sweaters I can make per year, I have more than enough to keep me going for probably as many years as I can be expected to be knitting. Nicole isn’t making sweaters yet but some of the yarn I bought for her because some of it is colors that she loves.
Here are two recent additions that I’m hoping to knit on this fall/winter. The yarn is still in the plastic bags so it’s not as pretty as in real life out of plastic bags.
The above yarn is Madelinetosh Longrider DK. It has a bit of nylon in it and it’s supposed to hold up better than 100% wool. I want to us this to make Well Water Hoodie for Nicole, and the kid’s version, Little Spring Hoodie, for Addie. Nicole and Addie both love that peachy/pinky color and both of them look great in it. I would really like to get this done before winter is over.
I’m usually attracted only to solid or solid-ish yarns but I bought this one to make a Well Water Hoodie for me.
It’s also Longrider DK and I think I was drawn to the color because (1) the name, (2) the splotchiness of the brown and green reminds me of our place here. It just looks like something I could wear around here a lot . . if it ever gets made! 🙂
When I was buying fabric like a crazy woman, no one believed I would ever stop buying fabric and I did. Now, no one believes I’ll ever stop buying yarn but I think the way my head works . . I just need to know that I have all I’ll ever need! If I want to buy more, I can buy more but for me, there’s something about having it all right here . . whether it’s fabric, yarn, seeds, canned goods . . maybe it’s a flaw, maybe it’s a weakness, maybe it’s a strength . . who knows. I guess buying it all could be a weakness but then using it all could be a strength. If that’s the case, right now I’m looking pretty weak, huh? 🙂

After moving last fall, it was a little easy to cut back on my yarn buying. As much fun as ESK’s yarnathon has been, that is one thing I sat out this year. I don’t even have much in stash from them so even playing along with what I had would have opened the floodgates.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. If buying it makes you happy (and who wouldn’t be?), you and Vince are obviously not homeless because you buy too much, and now Nicole knits, I would say you are fine.

Oh, I love that orange yarn. I may just have to look into getting some for myself.
