I’m not complaining about the rain, but I’m betting lots of people are in big trouble this morning. I knew we had a chance of rain during the night but shortly after 11 p.m., the thunder woke us up and Rita went into full panic mode. I got up and put her Thundershirt on her, which calmed her down but some of the thunder was pretty scary and she was restless. The rain hitting the window, and Rita’s restlessness kept me awake most of the night.
Our rain gauge goes up to 6″ and has about a 1/2″ cup at the top and it’s overflowing this morning so that’s at least 6-1/2″ of rain. The guys on the radio at 6 a.m. were reporting 5″ of rain in town with outlying areas reporting more rainfall. There’s flooding in town and high water rescues going on south of us.
It’s hard to believe that we had rain almost every day in May and then hardly a drop has fallen since the end of May and now . . in July, when we so rarely get rain, we get probably close to 8″ of rain in a 12 hour period. It’s still pouring and they say it’s going to rain off and on til about noon.
The good news is . . first time in I think 7 or 8 years but . .
The rains in May brought it way up. You can see how the water levels climbed in May and the lake got close to full but now it is full and with this much rain, the water will probably be flowing over the spillway by this afternoon. Knowing the lake is full brings relief (all the municipal water in this area comes from Lake Brownwood) but probably everyone is thinking . . it will happen again.
The bad news is: The mosquitoes about carried us off after the rains in May. Just yesterday I mentioned to Vince that it was nice to go out without having to cover ourselves in mosquito spray. Those little blood suckers are probably going to be back in full force and it takes them a heck of a lot longer to leave than it takes them to show up.

It hasn’t been making it this far east–gets real close then goes off to the north! While we had plenty earlier, it would be nice to get a little now! Your trees and plants are in rain heaven! HA

We in the Pacific Northwest are missing our rain. Would you please send it home! The heat in the high to mid 90’s is about to kill us. Most of us do not have air conditioning because we usually only get a few really warm days and nights a year. We got a little rain in June, less than an inch. We usually have rain until about July 5th and have always said that is when summer starts. This year it started about May 5th. Fire danger is way up. With all the vegetation so dry we have to be extra careful.
Everyone is also being told to conserve water because we did not get a snow pack this year and water is already becoming scarce. We are not used to having to do that. I have never seen so many yellow lawns or Mt Hood so bare.

My daughter’s vet put her daschund on melatonin to calm his reaction to thunder. It worked on the 4th of July, which is a good test. You could ask your vet about melatonin for Rita.

That’s a lot of rain. I’m envious and waiting for it to show up here. We were so spoiled this spring and then it just stopped. Not much more than a drop or two in June. If this keeps up, you may need to buy a boat!

WOW! Nice to see the lake is so full! I need to check on Buchanan. We had a place there for several years but the lake kept getting lower and lower and lower until it was way too far from our dock to enjoy. LOL. We sold it several years ago. I still miss our little place out there and the lake. When it’s full. 🙂
