After several comments from readers who like the border as drawn on Addie’s quilt, I decided to go ahead and try a block. This is the drawing. The border isn’t exactly right because the side borders especially aren’t sized just right and the blocks look a bit wonky. I’ll end up making the alternate blocks just a tad larger to take up some of the extra space and they’ll fit correctly.
I’m still not sure I’m going to use this block but since everyone liked it, I figured I’d give it a try.
It really is way easier to put together than I thought it would be but I’m still not sure that it isn’t going to look too small in relation to the 12″ center blocks. The border blocks are 5″ and I don’t really want to go any larger but to me, they just look so small. Maybe it’s because those blasted little pieces are so small and I just don’t do small well!
It’s really hard to tell at this point so I’m going to get the main part of the quilt done, do one border, probably a side border, and see what I think and ask for opinions and decide what to do from there.
All of the big snowball type blocks are made and today I hope to make the white/yellow triangles that go along with them and start assembling side and corner setting triangles.
The star blocks are going to be so easy and I kept wanting to work on those yesterday but I didn’t let myself do it! Finish those not so fun blocks first . . get the job done! 🙂

I really like the border because it gives the eye a place to rest. It’s a very striking quilt. I also like the brightness of it. Addie’s a lucky girl to get such a fun quilt.

I find that small pieces look bigger when I do more of them. =)

Love that border.. it is delicate yet representative of the center…

Would a 6″ border work? The blocks would be a bit larger and since the other borders are just color you wouldn’t have to try to fit (if that makes any sense) 🙂
