I never know is Summer Solstice is my favorite or my least favorite day of the year. Every time I mention this, most folks disagree with me but I detest the long days! I’m not so crazy about winter’s cold but I love the shorter days. As long as it’s daylight, Vince and I are out working outside and when we come inside at 9 p.m., shower and do a few inside chores, it’s bedtime and that leaves way too little time for sitting and relaxing . . watching a movie or knitting.
Sunday was Summer Solstice so now the days will be getting shorter, and even though summer is officially here, we might as well start it and get it over with. I do not like miserably hot days.
The summer we moved here, there had been 100 days straight with temps over 100º. Vince got here in May and I got here in August and it was a pretty miserable summer.
Our long range forecast at Accuweather goes through August 5 and there isn’t a single day that’s above 100. In fact, I think the highest is 96. Some of the nights in mid-July are going to be in the upper 60’s.
So . . our weather could be a whole lot worse. I’m thankful for cool nights and no 100+ degree days. The bad news is . . the next chance of rain is the end of July. We were so lucky to get all the rain we got and get the lake so close to full. All in all, I think this summer is going to be the best one, as far as weather, since we’ve been here.
Still . . I don’t like summer!

Not a summer girl. I like the other 3 seasons better. Fall and into winter make me the happiest, I think. I always had a theory that summer born babies like summer better and winter born babies like winter better. I’m a January baby. But I could have just made it up.

Oh man, if all the days could stay light until almost 9pm that would be good by me!!! I don’t work outside all day in it like you do. But I like the light..not the long dark nights. And I’ll take hot over cold any day. It’s miserable freezing my a$s off!! I canNOT get warm.

I’m here in central Washington state –fruit country and this is my 3rd summers here. First year we got a handful of 100+ days–all in August. Last year it was 13 straight in July along with forest fires all around us do the smoke just settled in our valley. This year, 111 tomorrow and long range forecast has at least 13 days of 100+. We’ve already had several 100+ in early June! I’m so Ressy to move to Alaska.
