The things that are growing are growing well.
This looks like it’s going to be the best loofah crop I’ve ever had. So far, the grasshoppers aren’t bothering it but that could change. They’re pretty bad right now.
They’re nice and big and I’m hopeful for a good crop.
The corn looks good. I haven’t checked any of the ears to see if the worms are eating it. I did put a few drops of mineral oil on the ears when the silks were beginning to form, as a blog reader instructed last year so I’m anxious to see how that works.
The jalapeno peppers are doing great. I’ve made one batch of Cowboy Candy (sweet pickled candied jalapenos). We love those on sandwiches. I may have enough to make another batch tomorrow. My friend’s husband loves them too so I want to make enough to share.
Remember the seeds that were in the potting soil? I think it’s safe to say they’re sunflowers. These things are about 10′ tall. Our garden fence is 8′ tall and they tower over the garden fence.
Remember when I planted artichokes and some of the seeds were artichokes and some were not? This is what was not an artichoke.
Speaking of weird seeds . . the mulch for the blueberries had seeds in it apparently because there’s corn growing with the blueberries. Vince was going to pull it all out and I wanted to let it grow and see if it produces anything.
Growing a garden around here is kinda like a box of chocolates, huh? 🙂

Wow, yes it is! Amazing. I like opportunity seeds, though. Last year, something fell into one of my empty pots that had dirt and the prettiest flowers came up. I was hoping they would re-seed themselves, but I guess not. It was a one-shot deal. Your jalapeños look fabulous! Your weather messed you up some, but you are getting a few good things out of that garden, so yay!

What fun! I’m glad to see that your garden is doing well after your disappointing setback.

My main reason for gardening is to have “fresh” tomatoes all year and that’s not going to happen but at least there are some things growing.
