I had to laugh this morning . . we used to joke about people who got all their news from Facebook or the late night entertainment shows but this morning, I was getting my news from my blog readers. Since we don’t have TV, I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to the news. It isn’t like I don’t have a clue what’s going on . . maybe . . I do look at some online news but I really am not obsessed with the news like I once was.
I knew there was a tropical storm headed our way but when I woke up to about 10 emails from blog readers, I figured I’d better pay a bit more attention to what the storm is doing. Texas Storm Chasers is where I get most of my weather news.
If you look at the projected path and compare that to where we are, you’ll see that the path of the storm is staying to our east but we are expecting a lot of rain. The lake is barely 1 foot down now so our area is in danger of flooding. If we get a lot of rain, there are areas around here that flood and once the run off gets to the lake, it could cause some flooding too.
Pretty weird to have no water for so long and then be concerned about flooding.
As far as us personally, I don’t think our house/land will ever flood. Vince can get to work without experiencing any flooding. There are no streams or rivers near our house that will cause us any issues. Other than work, there’s no where we need to go. Super soaked ground and a little wind could bring down power lines but we’ll be fine so . . don’t worry about us no matter what you hear on the news (unless there’s a big tornado!). Just remember that without power, I can’t do blog posts.

We’re more in the path than you are and now under tornado watch until midnight. I think since we grew up in the East coast and lived in Taiwan for 10 years where typhoons were prevalent we don’t get too concerned about them. We are high and dry, although some of the homes here get water in them, more from the heavy downpour and street drains not being able to handle the run off. Sometimes we can’t get out of the sub division for a little while. Another too much for the drains at the one intersection. The houses along Brushy creek though will probably get flooded again if it rains hard up stream. They are are still cleaning up from the Memorial Day rains. So unless we get high winds and bad storms we’ll be fine. Now if we can get the remodel people here during all this we will be even better!

thanks for putting up the Texas map!
(you know for years i thought you lived in the Brownwood on the coast, close to the Mexican border.)

Dear Pdudgeon, I think perhaps you’re thinking of Brownsville down on the coast – a very easy mistake to make if you’re not from Texas! I lived in the state for 20 years before I even knew there *was* a Brownwood – I lived on the coast and all I knew was BrownsVILLE. I thought the person talking about Brownwood must’ve been mistaken – which means there may well be a Brownwood on the coast that I don’t know about. 🙂
It’s a big state ….. thank heaven for maps, right?
