Most knitters, especially those of us in small towns, struggle to find interesting buttons. I’m of the opinion that buttons can make or break a sweater, or any other knitted garment. It makes me happy when I come across nice buttons and sometimes I buy them, even though I have no project in mind. For a while, I’ve been reading about Buttonalia on Ravelry and seeing interesting buttons that knitters find and use. The other night (May 31 to be exact), I was just about ready to go to bed and happened on the Buttonalia site and figured . . now is the time to order a few buttons and see for myself what I think about them.
First, I got a response a nice “thank you” from a human . . Sharry, who is the Buttonalia lady. Second, the shipping was reasonable ($7 for several sets of buttons . . all the way from England), and third . . shipping was quite prompt. I received them on June 8.
They were so neatly packaged.
I really didn’t have any project in mind but there are possibilities for all of them.
These are Chili Red Twirl Ceramic buttons and I think they might go with the Pendleton Red Madelinetosh DK Twist.
These are Lime Green Ceramic buttons and they will surely go with some of my lime green yarns.
The last ones I ordered are the Happy Rustic Hearts Ceramic buttons. There are two gold, two lime and two red. I think these may go on a sweater I have started but they are colors I love and use often so I’m sure they’ll be used for something.
There were also two extra buttons included, one that’s a turquoise and one that’s a brown .. just a little gift I suppose.
I’m real happy with my order and will be ordering from them again.

Have you ever thought about covering your own buttons to match what you’re knitting? As a sewer of many things I’ve used these before and they are easy to use, in diff sizes, etc. You could just knit the little pieces separate to use for making covered buttons.

Oh, no, pictures of the other buttons? Oh, right, I can just look at the website myself! Thanks Judy, these were real interesting. Thanks for the heads-up. Glad you are enjoying your extended family so much.

P.S. I had a past magazine I have buried here somewhere, that showed how to create matching buttons by crocheting around a ring (like a med size shade pull ring) and then adding to that to make a solid button that would just charm your sox off. I’ll see if I can look that up. They were real good looking and of course matched every shade of yarn I could whip up into a sweater.
