This must be the day of the sprouting posts! I’m so excited that the ginger is finally actually doing something . . as opposed to just looking like it was fixing to do something!
It’s definitely been very slow about doing anything and I’m sure it will take forever before there are edible rhizomes (or what we call ginger root).
Also, the turmeric is finally sprouting.
Turmeric takes 8 – 10 months (so they say) before it produces enough to harvest. I’ll be anxiously watching to see what it does.

i was so excited when i read the topic… i thot there were sprouts that tasted like ginger! just yesterday i planted a few ginger nodes in hopes of being able to have fresh ginger rather than paying $4.99 lb. at the store. disappointed to read how long it will take, and i do have to account for my purple thumbs and poor growing climate, but it’s potted and will live inside for the winter. fingers crossed.

Once you get it going though, you should have an almost continuous supply of fresh ginger and turmeric. You can do it! 🙂

You’re becoming Texan! Your ginger is “fixing” to sprout!

I think that’s also a Louisiana thing. People have laughed at me in Kentucky and Missouri for saying “fixing”. At least here, it’s acceptable.

Where do I find seeds or whatever is needed to start a sprout garden?
JudyL says
Ginger and turmeric aren’t really sprouts but my plants are sprouting. If you’re talking about ginger and turmeric, I bought those at the grocery store (in the fresh veggie section) and planted them.

My husband’s mother was from Missouri and she always said “fixing”so my husband born & raised in CA did, also! In the context of your sentence it seems very appropriate to me Judy!
Please keep us updated as the ginger & turmeric bulbs grow!

I love pickled ginger and just bought a small amount today for a homemade tonic recipe that a friend recommended. I was amazed at the price. I may try to plant and grow some too. If Patti’s works then it should work in my area of MO. Will read up on it. Thanks for showing your nodes.
