Dinner tonight was grilled burgers on jalapeno/sun dried tomato buns from Great Harvest Bread in Katy, Texas. I sure wish we had a Great Harvest here . . but we don’t.
We had grilled yellow squash, zucchini and onions from the garden, along with bacon wrapped stuffed jalapeno peppers (also from the garden).
Yesterday I noticed the peaches on one tree were ripe . . too ripe really. All the rain was about to ruin them and even though Vince knew they were getting ripe, he didn’t want to pick them because he didn’t know what to do with them. We ended up picking about 4 dozen, which isn’t bad for a first year’s harvest. None of the other peach trees are near ready for picking. Not sure what variety this one is but I saved some of the seeds and will see if I can get more trees to grow. The peaches are big and sweet .. and yummy.
I made a peach cobbler last night and we used the last of the Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla that I’ve been saving specifically for when we had a fresh peach cobbler.
There’s nothing quite as good as the first of anything . . first peaches of the season, first home grown tomato (which I’m still waiting for).

I hope you’re not dealing with the terrible flooding some parts of Texas are getting.

I envy you those wonderful tree-ripened peaches. Peach trees are pretty short-lived here in Nebraska, but a couple different times we had one or two and those peaches were wonderful. A store-bought peaches, not matter how good, just can’t compare.
