We had such a wet few weeks and everything here is so green. In right at 4 years, we’ve never seen this area so green. Just passing through here, you wouldn’t even think we’ve had such a horrible drought. On our little road trip yesterday, we both said over and over “Can you believe how green everything is?” We get used to seeing everything dead and brown and then when I go to Missouri, the first thing I notice is how lush and green everything looks. It’s funny how we’ve always taken “green” for granted and never thought much about it til we don’t have it. I guess it’s that way with so many things.
The first year we were here, I think we cut the grass 3 times the entire year and we’ve already cut it 10 or 12 times just this spring. There are wildflowers blooming everywhere and central Texas seems so alive and vibrant after our wet weather.
But, it was getting dry. I’ve been having to water the garden and the fruit trees. We’ve had a chance of rain and storms predicted and they get close but we had not had any rain for several weeks.
The weather radio alarm would go off, it would look like we were certainly going to get a storm, but the clouds would pass right by us and we would get no rain. Sunday night we had so much thunder, lightning and wind, I was kinda scared and Rita was in a panic. It all passed right over us and we got nothing. I’m kinda glad that it all passed over us because areas to the north and east of us had huge hail and flooding.
I thought the last of our chances of rain had ended yesterday and there was no more in the forecast til next week but I was pleasantly surprised to awaken this morning to rain on the metal roof. It’s a gentle, steady rain but it has gotten cold. Felt like 39 when I woke up and the low tonight is going to be 43.
This slow, gentle rain is great for the garden and really great for my knitting. I can’t do anything outside so I might as well sit and knit, right? 🙂

Ah, rain! A friend who also grew up in western Washington and now lives in northern California marvels with me that we’d ever WISH for rain.
Also, I was just visiting a relaxing-sounds site; one offering was “rain on a tin roof.”

I’m glad that the rain you’re getting is that kind and not the hail and wind and fast kind. I’ve had all I want for a while, but we’re getting more tomorrow. This morning was just so gorgeous, I could love this place if it stayed like that! It could rain at night and be sunny during the day. LOL
