But . . did you know I would go three times? Yep, three times!
Vince and I were going to meet for lunch because I had to go to town anyway to get the oil changed in the car. We were . . ever so conveniently for me . . going to meet for lunch near Aldi’s. My plan was to eat lunch with Vince, then go to Aldi’s. I got there about 10 minutes before I was supposed to meet Vince and then he called and said he was going to be about 20 minutes late . . 30 minutes . . I’m going to Aldi’s! I only got non-refrigerated items but then after we ate, Vince said “Come on . . I’ll go with you!” Oh yes . . this was going to be fun! 🙂
The Taste of the Wild is actually cat food that’s been in there a few days . . that didn’t come from Aldi’s. They had free bags today so they said . . use our bags . . save your bags! So, I did.
They had 4 pound bags of sugar for 99¢. Milk was $1.69 per gallon. I like those tubs of artisan lettuce — has 4 types of lettuce. They’re about $5 at the other store and sometimes I get them on sale for $3 but Aldi’s had them for $1.29. Cucumbers are anywhere from 69¢ to 89¢ elsewhere and they were 29¢ at Aldi’s. There was something else that was a screaming bargain but I can’t remember what it was now.
My best find . . gardening tools for Addie.
I’m not sure how effective the broom will be in the garden but we have porches she can sweep.
It took forever to get everything put away (there were also bags in the back seat) and then I watered all the fruit trees and I thought . . I can spend the rest of the evening knitting. Since we had lunch out, I wasn’t going to cook dinner.
Vince got home and he said “want to go back to Aldi’s and maybe it won’t be so crowded and we can look around more?” Sure . . so we went back to Aldi’s. Saw things we hadn’t seen earlier.
I think I’ve had my fill of Aldi’s for one day! 🙂 I’ll probably go back next week before the lettuce sale ends, unless my lettuce in the garden is ready and then I won’t be buying lettuce for a while. We’ll see . .

You had me smiling from the first sentence. I’m so glad you have your Aldi’s. Looks like you got some great bargains.
JudyL says
You know me too well. You knew I was going at least once, didn’t you?
Sherry V says
Three times! Oh my! The gardening tools are cute.
I am glad you had such a good time…..guess I need to see if there is an Aldi’s near me to check it out.

I am sure I don’t say it often enough, but I enjoy this little window into your life. I haven’t blogged a lot lately, but my last post mentions your blog. I don’t have an Aldi nearby, but WOW! If I did, I would hope I would hit it on a day like you did!
JudyL says
Thanks! That’s always nice to hear. I appreciate you as a reader and appreciate your comment.
They had amazing prices yesterday. Their prices are always good but yesterday was really good. Their Grand Opening is tomorrow and they’ll have prizes and give aways but we’ll be out of town most of the day so we probably won’t get back by there til next week.
Judy H says
I wish we had an Aldi’s! I hear great things about them all the time, but the nearest one is over two hours from me.
JudyL says
I really am shocked that we got one in our little town but am so happy to have it. Maybe some day you will get one.
When we were in Nevada, there was one about an hour from us (Pittsburg, KS) and one in Joplin, about 1-1/2 hours away, so it was a treat for me to get to go there and shop. Now . . Aldi is the closest grocery store to my house. How lucky is that??

I liked the grand opening bargains at Aldi’s but not so crazy about them now. I ran in a few days ago to pick up salad mix and ice for my niece’s bunco gathering and they don’t have ice!!! What?!! Also don’t like the 25 cents for the carts as half the time I don’t have a quarter in my purse. UGH!
JudyL says
Organize yourself Sherrill! 🙂 I still keep one quarter in the little hole in my door handle and I haven’t lived by an Aldi’s for almost 4 years. I take in when I get my cart and put it back when I come out of the store . . there’s always a quarter there.
Any time I need ice, I stop at the convenience store. The ice is usually right outside in the bin, there’s no parking lot (as in an Aldi store) to deal with. Pay inside with no line, grab a bag of ice and be on my way.
Better yet, I freeze water in Gatorade bottles or milk cartons or orange juice cartons. The only time I need ice is when we’re going somewhere and taking a cooler and those big blocks of ice work so much better. Otherwise, you should have plenty of ice in your ice maker . . bag it and keep a full bag on hand for when you need it!

Best thing is that you can go to their website and see what is on special this week AND next… The prices have crept up a bit since ours opened but most things (staples like butter, milk, eggs, flour) are still quite a bit less than at the major brands in town, or even at WallyWorld. And, like you, I keep a quarter in my truck – and a bag of bags… LOL
Susan says
Yep, had to smile. I didn’t expect three times. That Vince is such an enabler. 8) Great buys!

So glad you got an Aldi,s but our town, where you usually stop and make some purchases, as you travel from Texas to MO., (in Ok) will miss you! Our prices have also slowly progressed up but Aldi,s is still the least expensive for produce. The company ought to give you a nice discount because of your comments. I personally thank you for your insight on the store. It caused me to shop there. I was surprised at the many non-grocery related things they offer at such great prices. If they should run out of the special items, WM will price match. That is a win-win for sure.

I had to smile, too!!! Going to Aldi’s is always a GOOD TIME for me and I just WISH they’d put one closer to us (Amarillo area). In the years where we haven’t been able to go to Aldi’s (started going there in Pennsylvania, then Maryland and finally West Virginia), we always checked areas we’d be traveling to/through to pick up things at Aldi’s.
I’ve never minded the quarter for the cart – like you, we always have a quarter in whatever vehicle we’re using and after shopping, the quarter goes back (used only for Aldi’s, LOL). And, we always carry coolers in the vehicles as well as large tote bags and or fruit boxes (from Sam’s or Costco) to pack the wonderful BARGAINS!

I love Aldi’s as well. Some of the prices have gone up a little, but at all other grocery stores prices have gone up a lot! I love the produce they have. At my store it is always so fresh and if for some reason I end up with something that is not as fresh as I would like they replace it free! I always use my reusable bags and like you, I keep a quarter in the car all the time. The idea of keeping it in the door handle is a great one! I will try that. I also have a couple of insulated reusable bags that I drop an ice pack into when I leave the house, so I am all ready for whatever I buy.

I finally convinced my Aussie daughter to check out the Aldi’s in the Melborne area; I think she’s hooked!
Mary in VA says
We have one coming but no date yet on when it is opening. The parking lot is done, there are billboards up saying it’s opening soon, but it’s not yet listed on the Aldi opening list.
Verna says
I’d never heard of Aldi until I read about it here. We recently heard we’re getting one, and I’m excited like you! The closest one now is about two hours away.
Janice says
Sadly, Aldi has no plans ‘at the moment’ to venture into Canada. I read a lot of English blogs and they are always talking about the bargains that they get at Aldi and another store called Lidl. I keep change in the drinks holder in both our vehicles as some stores charge 25 cents and other stores our $1 coin. I also have bags in both vehicles. Just so you can compare some prices-2 litres of milk here costs $3.25 +deposit+recycling fee totalling $3.65!! Eggs are $2.65/doz. and butter is between $5 and $7/lb.

I’ve been waiting for this post! So happy for you. The only shopping I like to do is grocery shopping. We have a store called Winco (a chain in the Pacific NQ) and it has great prices for which I’m very thankful. Happy shopping!

We have a new grocery store down the street – Albertson’s has changed to Haggen. They are supposed to be a more organic/natural foods store. I haven’t had a chance to explore yet, but maybe tomorrow!
