Our Aldi is opening today. It seems like forever ago . . it was in September, so it’s been 7 months . . since we were sitting at the breakfast table and I said to Vince “I wish we could get an Aldi!” and he said . . we’re getting one! I didn’t believe him. I googled it and couldn’t find anything but I kept searching and finally found someone mention that Aldi was coming.
I heard where they were building the store . . actually it’s inside a strip mall . . I’ve drive by there a dozen or more times, and considering that I don’t go to town that often, that’s quite a lot of times for me.
Last week Vince and I were in that strip mall and I knew they were opening April 21 so we walked by and peeked in the windows. Vince said “Knock on the door and tell them how much you love them and how long you’ve waited and they might let you in!” Right! I didn’t do it.
I begged Chad to apply for the manager job but no . . he loves his fishing and hunting buddies in MO more than he loves his mama in Texas! I knew he wouldn’t come here but it didn’t hurt to ask.
Anyway . . they’re opening today. I have to go out to get the oil changed. I’ll ride by and see if the parking lot is packed. I may stick my head inside but the first day they’re open . . probably not a good day for me to try to shop.
I’m just so blasted happy they’re here!

Thanks. I saw it last night but everything we have, we’ve eaten over half of it already so I’m probably going to just continue on. I’m sure it’s all off the shelves, as it should be, so I won’t be buying more til they’re 200% sure they’ve figured it out.

Go. You know you want to. =) Try later in the day, maybe not so crowded? I know when Whole Foods opened here, it was jam packed for weeks, and still seems to have a full parking lot every day of the week, every time of day, but Knoxville is a little larger than your town. =)

I didn’t like Aldi when it first opened here. My daughter convinced me to try it again and now I love it. Ours is so popular they just doubled in size. The cashiers are so fast that even if there’s a line it goes quickly.

Enjyo your Aldi! I can remember going to one years ago with my MIL and wishing we had one, then we did! We got the first Aldi in metro Atlanta I think and I’ve been loving it for years (since my younger son was in preschool and he’s a HS sophomore now).

Judy – perhaps today might be a good day to go to the other supermarkets in town. You’d have to think that they’ll have been planning ways of keeping customers once Aldi opens, so perhaps you’ll find some super super discounts?

It’s funny, when the Aldi opened in Gadsden, AL (closest to me) there were very few people there. No one seemed to know about them. Mom and I went and loaded up. We found so many great things that we had been missing from Germany. So it may not be as popular there yet, and you can get in and shop. Worth a check. There seems to be an Aldi in almost every village in Germany. I am just so happy that they are here! Have fun, hope you get in soon!!
