We’re all passionate about our phones . . I guess. I have a love/hate relationship with my iPhone. I’ve never had any problems with the iPhone and I think the reason I’m dislike it is because I’m taking my frustration out on the phone because of my total disgust with seeing people driving down the road, in the grocery store, in the restaurant on the phone. That certainly isn’t the iPhone’s fault but in my mind, the iPhone is what sucked so many folks down that “can’t put the phone down” addiction. That’s pretty shallow of me, right?
Every few years when it’s time to get a new phone, I say I’m going with something besides an iPhone but then in the end, I go with the iPhone.
I’ve decided it’s time to emerge from the dark ages, get rid of the iPhone 4 and go with a 6. But now . . I can’t decide whether I want the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the iPhone! Vince reminded me that I had a Galaxy several years ago and didn’t like it. I can’t even remember that!
Anyone have the Galaxy S6 that used to have the iPhone? Help me out please! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have an iPhone 6 and love it. It is so much better than the 4.

I have a Samsung. My son has new HTC. I’ve had HTC’s and prefer them to Samsung.
HTC is terrific.

I’m probably no help, but I’ve had the Samsung Galaxy for the last 2 phones (Note 2 and now Note 4 – really like the Note – one reason is the stylus where you can write your notes/reminders). I’ve been really, really happy with them.
The one thing about all the new devices is they seem to come with more and more stuff that I really don’t need/want/use, but, unfortunately that’s the way all the new devices are these days.

Both my daughters thought they would go from the IPhone to the Samsung also my Grandson….the 3 of them couldn’t get back to the iPhone fast enough….they all hated the Samsung…..

I have had a Samsung for the last 2 phones. I am wanting to get the ne galaxy 6 when my upgrade comes available.

I had HTC and it was a nice enough phone. Got the Samsung S5 and LOVE it. If the S6 is better, then it must be a really great phone.
I have friends who have iPhones and they love them and would never ever think of changing to an Android phone.
I’m thinking that if you are used to the iPhone that you probably won’t be happy with any other phone. 🙂
At C|Net Samsung took the top 3 spots in their “Best Android phones of 2015.”

You like android apps? That is what u should consider as well as u have 30 days to switch if u don’t like what u picked out… U have the iPad, what is ur computer, is it apple or something else… My hubby went with the samsung along with him having the iPad and Kindle! Ten days later he switched to the iPhone – preference is individual. I have the iPhone but since I use it %100 for everything I used up 16 storage so upgraded to 32… Also remember all the updates on apple iPhones take up storage of the iPhone… Storage u can’t use for yourself. That’s where I ran into a problem.

I don’t use a lot of apps on my phone. I use a lot of apps on the iPads and I wouldn’t want to be without those but for the phone, it’s mostly taking pictures when I don’t want to get out a camera or when I want to snap a quick shot and send to someone via text. I use the iPads way more than I use the phone but when I’m not at home, the phone is always with me and the iPads are not always with me.

I was told the s6 had the best camera even over the iPhone. I’m considering the very same switch. I figure I can learn the new phone easily enough.
Jill of Apple Avenue Quilts says
I’m just wondering why when you have had an iphone and know basically how it works and know it is a reliable product, you would want to have to learn a whole new system. I say make it easy on yourself and stay with what you know especially when it come to a phone.
JudyL says
I’m definitely not worried about learning something new. I simply want to get what’s best for me and the way I use a phone. Everyone uses their phone differently and what works great for one might not be the best for the next person. I’ve never been one to stick with one thing because it was the comfortable thing to do.
Right now, the camera on the Samsung seems to outshine the camera on the iPhone and the camera is probably the most important thing to me.
Helen says
I got the iPhone 6 as soon as it came out. All the photos on my blog are taken with the iPhone.

Well, I still have a flip phone. The smart phones look fun but I can’t justify the cost. It would be handy for driving directions, but for internet searches, etc, I use my computer. But then I live in the dark ages: no cable or satellite either. My kids give us a bad time.
JudyL says
We don’t have cable or satellite either. I don’t use my phone as much as a lot of folks do but I do use it enough to feel like having a smartphone is worth it. My world wouldn’t end if I didn’t have it though. 🙂

We use prepaid Android phones with Trak Phone. We just don’t use the cell phones enough to justify the cost of a monthly plan. The phone I bought came with triple minutes for life, so I buy 60 minutes for 20 bucks and get 180 minutes, 180 texts and 180 MB of data and 3 months of service for 20 bucks. The minutes, data and text roll over, so if you don’t use them all, (which I never do), when you buy your next 3 months of service the minutes/texts/data just add on to your total. The phones have a camera, lots of apps available and we’ve been real happy with them. I use it for phone, taking pictures, texting, e-mailing, facebooking and internet searching. It ends up costing us about $13 a month for both phones. We’ve had these for about a year and before that, we had 1 flip phone between us! We upgraded and went with 2 phones because we were anticipating my husband having to have chemotherapy after his cancer surgery last year and both of us being out of the house and needing to contact each other. He ended up not needing the chemo, but we’re glad we made the switch anyway.
Kathleen says
Terri,
That sounds great. I had heard of this before, but when we asked the sales guy at Fred Meyer, he said the triple minutes only applied to talking and expired or something. He didn’t paint a good picture. I’ll keep looking into it. It sounds like a plan that would be perfect for us.

I had a an IPhone, switched to a Galaxy and fought with it daily. My desktop is a Mac and I found taking my pictures from the Galaxy to the Mac was very difficult – I eventually started to automatically send my pictures directly to my Dropbox and then I could bring them down to my desktop computer. Last summer I was eligible for an upgrade and went back to and IPhone and love it. My husband just recently switched from his Galaxy back to the IPhone 6+ and loves it. He was constantly swearing at the Galaxy and “fighting” with it. He doesn’t have those problems any longer. I just personally think the IPhone is an easier phone to use – items don’t seem to be buried as deeply in the IPhone as they are in the Galaxy.
Shari says
The iPhone 6 takes great pictures.
Sherrill says
I had the HTC and HATED it mostly because I didn’t have my iTunes anymore. MUST have my iTunes on my phone so I stick with the iPhone. I don’t use a lot of the stuff it’s designed to do but I stick with em (even though I get aggravated at the cost!!).
JudyL says
I don’t think I’ve ever used iTunes on my phone. I have 3 or 4 iPods and have them all synced with the same songs except one very old one and there’s an iPod in the dock in our bedroom, one in the kitchen, one in the sewing room and I keep on in my car. I can listen to iTunes on either iPad, and often do. I guess my iPhone came with iTunes loaded but I’ve never used it once.

My daughter has a Galaxy 5 and refuses to upgrade to the 6; the 5 is waterproof, whereas the 6 is not, and the added bells and whistles don’t justify having the new phone in her eyes. I have an Iphone 4, and it seems a lot simpler to use, but I have trouble with websites etc. The kids mock me for staying with such an old phone, but it does what I want it to.
JudyL says
I saw that the new Galaxy wasn’t waterproof. My iPhone 4 is about on its last leg or I wouldn’t change either.
Connie in Louisiana says
Have the IPhone 6+ and love it. Like a mini ipad & great when traveling. Great for pics. It is also my kindle, calendar, alarm clock, bank account, calculator, Facebook, email, weather tracker, music, map and many other things. My friends who had IPhones and changed to Samsung wish they had not.
Linda in NE says
I’d be a bad one to ask since I think the world would be a better place if cell phones had never been invented. That being said, I have a Samsung Galaxy Centura Tracfone with the triple minutes that I rarely turn on. Only got it because last year we were babysitting our infant grandchildren five miles outside the nearest town and there was no land line. The parents took their phones to work with them, hence my getting any form of cell phone. Maybe I’ve become an old fuddy duddy???
Jo's Country Junction says
I’m an S5 gal. I like the phone and it’s very easy to use. My son works for a cell phone company and he says that more and more people are moving to Galaxy phones.

Had my first Samsung galaxy phone for 20 days, adore it and what it can do. Plus they gifted us a tablet for 10.00 per month and we have lots to do with them. We still use the sudden link Internet for WiFi at home as we go over our gigs, lol.
Dar in MO says
We have Android phones and have never tried an iPhone because of the cost primarily. When we got our phones they were the latest releases and were less than half the cost of iPhones, but still did everything the iphone did. We still have them and have not needed an upgrade. It takes great pictures, and I have no problems with internet, GPS or any of the apps I use. I use a lot of the features, but the DH doesn’t. He basically uses the phone, time/date instead of wearing a watch and current weather forecast.
Ila says
I’m an Android fan…but before you choose the S6 you may want to read some tech reviews. The battery is smaller than the S5 and not replaceable. I have the Samsung Note and love, love, love it! Can’t say enough good stuff. Ask if the phone store will give you 2 weeks with no penalty to change. That way you can make up your own mind 🙂
Debbie Rhodes says
I like me I phone… like having eveything automatic link to I pad.. and vice versa…
Debra says
I was an iPhone and iPad user and primarily use my phone for pictures and texting. I switched to Samsung S3 and loved it. Upgraded to the Note and now have a Note4. I didn’t choose the S6 because it does not have a micro SD slot.. Two reasons I switched from an iPhone=the lack of removable storage and inability to customize the home page. I can save LOTS of pictures on a micro SD card on my Note4. I can sync my phone with my email on my pc and my Samsung tablet. Another plus…I can read messages on the Note4 without my reading glasses!

So I know I’m late with my comment, but I was traveling. My 2 cents are, I know you like your iPad. If you sync your phone or use any of those apps on your phone, you might really miss them. I upgraded to an iPhone 5 last year. I know it is not a 6, but I tried to do a Samsung 5 and wound up taking it back. It was too big for me. I have small hands. The camera was great, but overall it wasn’t the best choice for me. Good luck.

I recently went through this exact decision. People who have the Samsung phones seem to be so happy with them and I thought about changing. After much “thinking” and checking out the new phones, I decided to stay with the I-Phone and got the 6 Plus, mainly because I am so familiar with the I-Pad and I-Phone and didn’t want a new learning curve. I’m very happy with the new phone.

I had an iPhone for years and liked it except a few things that made me crazy. (Can’t switch out the battery, can’t get more memory, iTunes)
Husband got me a Samsung and it took me a while to get used to it, but I really like it. It has an amazingly great camera. Great volume ( I like to listen to audiobooks without earphones.), and the apps I loved on the iPhone I can get same or comparable on the Samsung..
I am really bad about photos. I take them but never want to delete any. With the extra sd memory I don’t have to.
They both are great phones.
JudyL says
If the new Samsung had a place for an SD card, hands down I’d go with the Samsung but without it, I’m finding it hard to make the decision.

I got a new iPhone 6 when they first came out. I qualified for a new phone, so I traded in my iPhone 4s to Verizon. Got the best deal ever and ended up paying $75.00 for my new iPhone 6. I have an iMac desktop and an iPad. I love to take photos, and the 6 has thee BEST camera ever! No exaggeration. It takes just as good or better pictures than my Panasonic Lumix F28 digital camera. The best part is the streaming from the phone to iPhoto on my iMac. That is where I do all my photo editing. Our grandson is professional photographer and he has tried several brands of phones, he made the mistake of going with Samsung, and regrets it now. I also have a Windows 8.1 laptop in the sewing room, I wish I could stream photos to it from my iPhone…I really love that Apple feature. Anyone reading this know how to accomplish that? Look at the new iPhone 6 before you buy anything. Hope you can get a good deal.
