You know it doesn’t take much to excite me but I can hardly contain myself these days. Poor Vince . . he gets home from work and I go running outside . . well, walking fast maybe. Vince doesn’t get nearly as excited about things as I do . . unless it’s yarn purchases showing up on the credit card and for some reason, he seems real excitable about those charges! 🙁
This really is an exciting time for me. There’s so much happening. You may get tired of seeing fruit but I have never paid much attention to it and it’s almost unbelievable how quickly it’s growing.
Asian Pears are one of my favorite fruits and we have two Asian Pear trees and both have fruit.
Both crab apple trees have fruit.
The peaches are growing so quickly.
Other exciting news . . a few of our bluebird houses have nests and the one in the orchard has 5 eggs!
The most exciting news of all . .
The Grand Opening of our Aldi is just a little over two weeks from today. I’m betting they open a few days before that. In fact, I’m guessing they may open next week.
I might be more excited about Aldi than I would be about a yarn shop opening in our town! Maybe but who knows . . we don’t have a yarn shop opening as far as I know so I guess I don’t have to think too much about that!

All of those are EXCITING!!!! Since we moved to the Texas panhandle, we have to travel to Wichita Falls or Oklahoma City for Aldis. If we see an Aldis in any of our travels, we STOP, LOL.
Judy L. says
There’s one in Lawton, OK too.
Dottie N. says
Haven’t been to Lawton since I was a kid – sounds like a reason to maybe visit :-D.
Sherry Moran says
The nest and eggs are so neat! Lucky you!
Torina says
You are going to have babies!!! That is so exciting!! And the fruit!! I’m checking my apple trees and currant bush for signs of growth every day and you better believe I’ll be greeting my husband at the door when I see progress.

Ok if it goes like at our your house like it does mine the same birds will come back year after year. After these hatch and fledge(one night by the way). You can clean nest and they will have another set. I take everything and they start over. Generally he will build it in a day. (The dad builds the nest) If she doesn’t like it she won’t lay. So watch it for about a week and see. If a nest and no eggs trash that one she didn’t like it. I’m so excited for you to get bluebirds. They will help with the spider control too. They love it when you mow also. Keep the camera handy. WE always take photos every few days. The birds got to where they aren’t even afraid of us now. Sad I won’t get to be there this year. But I’m working on getting a house here for them.
Now as for Aldi you are going to love it. I think they are wonderful and yes they open a few days ahead so keep a look out for cars there.
Judy Laquidara says
I think we were told to leave the nest and they will come back and use the same nest all season.
There were quite a few cars in the Aldi parking lot so I think they may have all their employees there and they’re parking in the front spots for now. I don’t go out often enough to watch and see when things change so I’ll probably read about it in the newspaper and that’s how I’ll find out they’re open.

So..are SWEAT potatoes saltier than SWEET potatoes??? Love all your photos…..I think we are giving up on our radishes and carrots. The radishes came up and stopped growing, the carrots never came up at all. Lots of blossoms on our Apricot tree so I hope that means lots of apricots…..

LOL…and these are the things that excite a country girl! I’m excited for you!

All kinds of exciting things. My big cherry tree is starting to bloom, but it doesn’t look very healthy. I’m afraid it won’t be around much longer. I’m debating about planting a new one.
Diana says
How exciting for you !! Fruit is a coming in and Bluebird eggs .. Ahh spring is a wonderful thing !!
Carol says
Beautiful eggs. There’s nothing better than a warm peach picked right from your own tree.

I would be excited with all of this too. Our little nectarine tree we planted last year had flowers… I looked but cannot tell if it will fruit. And both our bird houses have nests… the brown-headed nuthatch is in the right house, but the poor bluebirds… they keep looking in the bluebird house but a regular nuthatch beat them to it.
Hope we get eggs soon too.
Fun.
Swooze says
Love your picture of the bluebird eggs.

Those ARE growing fast! It seems like they just blossomed, and they are good sized already. I’m so happy for you for Aldi’s opening! That’s going to make all the stores better, but Aldi’s is great for cheaper milk ($1 or more difference some weeks here), eggs, bread, and … well, everything! The robin eggs are so pretty! Gives the color robin’s egg blue a whole new meaning. If a yarn store opens, you can hit it every time you hit Aldi’s. =) Wait, you could open one yourself without buying any stock. =)

Of all your fruit tree I am most envious of your crab apples. I LOVE crab apple jelly more than any other. But do not have any in our area that I have been able to find. All the nurseries carry only the flowering. I end up searching the internet for jars of jelly for sale. I have only found it a few times.
Some day I am going to have to find a Aldi’s in my travels. I have never visited one, but such excitement about a grocery store makes me want to investigate it.
JudyL says
Most flowering or ornamental crabapples also produce edible fruit. Edible meaning . . it won’t kill you but it’s often very tart which makes the best jelly. Check the label on your local trees and then research it and I think you’ll find that the ornamental trees will be just fine for jelly making.

The Aldis in Monahans had name brand flat fold quilting fabric! It was only about $6.00/yd when the rest of the world was selling the same stuff on the bolt fabric for $9 – $10. Keep your eye out for it.
JudyL says
Amazing I’m never saw one with fabric!
Verna says
An Aldi is supposed to be opening nearby soon, and I can’t wait to check it out.
It will probably be another month or so before our fruit trees flower, but at least all the snow is gone!
