Remember Screech? You can read about him and hear his screechy crow in this post.
Last night, just before dark, the chickens in one of the bantam coops were making the most horrible noises. Something was definitely wrong and they sounded terrified. Vince was in the shower so I went running out there. Screech, who lives in the coop next door to them, had escaped from his run and was on top of their run. He wanted in! There are girls in that bunch of chickens and only boys in his coop.
When Vince got out of the shower, I told him that we needed to go catch Screech and put him back in the “naughty boys” coop but by the time we got the net and got out there, Screech was in the top of a tree. Vince said . . he’s on his own . . so that’s where we left him.
This morning I went out hoping to see him still alive but he was nowhere to be found. I reported to Vince that Screech didn’t appear to make it through the night so we went out looking for him. There were no feathers, which gave us hope, but all day we couldn’t find him.
When Vince went out this evening to give them food and water, Screech was inside the bantam coop. Somehow, he got inside the run last night before they all got closed up but apparently the other roosters weren’t willing to share their women with him so Screech spent the day hiding out inside the coop. Poor little guy!
Tomorrow, we’re getting rid of 6 or 8 roosters that are in the bantam coop and we may or may not let Screech stay in there . . depends on how nice he is to the ladies.
I was glad to see him alive because all day, I was afraid I was going to stumble upon his remains after some critter got him last night.
After being tormented by the roosters in the bantam coop all day, he may be happy to go back to the naughty boys coop.
