A Birthday Cake

I am not a baker! I don’t like baking cakes . . probably because I’m not crazy about cake. I could care less if I get a birthday cake on my birthday but Vince feels like he hasn’t had a birthday if he hasn’t had a cake. Hey . . if it means not getting older, I’d gladly give up the cake.

Today is Vince’s birthday so making a cake was on my agenda this morning. I searched the internet and found this recipe for Chocolate Cake with Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting. It looks like something Vince will eat and it looks like something I will not eat .. chocolate!  🙁

We didn’t have heavy cream so I used Half & Half. All we had was chunky peanut butter so I used that. The recipe recommends Guittard chocolate. I didn’t have that and I’m not a connoisseur of chocolate so I have no idea what makes Guittard better. I did have Callebaut chocolate, because my friend is a connoiseur of fine chocolate and she shares.

Even though I don’t like chocolate, I do like Reese’s Cups and I do live Red Velvet Cake and I do like my mom’s chocolate fudge recipe. I think the top icing is going to taste a bit like mom’s fudge. The cake has vinegar in it so I think that’s going to make it kinda “packy” like a Red Velvet Cake, and with the peanut butter, it may taste a bit like a Reese’s Cup so . . I might just try a small slice of this. Hey . . it’s Vince’s birthday and we have 100 bottles of $2 wine. Enough wine and I’m sure I’ll love chocolate!  🙂

I asked Vince what he wanted for his birthday dinner and he wants pork burgers. Easy for me! The pork is defrosting. He’ll grill it . . I’ll knit!

But first, I have about 200 potato seedlings to get planted . . I’ll be in the garden if anyone needs me.

    • Thank you but it doesn’t look great. It looks like any minute, the peanut butter frosting “dam” may break but the fudge icing has now hardened enough that there won’t be a mudslide.

  6. The cake looks sinfully good especially the combination of chocolate and peanut butter. Yum! He will love it. Happy birthday to Vince. At our house the birthday cakes tended to be angel food or cheesecake as we are not big cake lovers either. But an occasional piece is tasty.

  18. I’m sure with a scrumptious looking cake like that, Vince would have to have had a great birthday. Hope he has many more. It does look sinfully delicious and very high calorie, but your birthday only comes around once a year, so it’s worth it!!

    • No. I had not seen that. Thanks so much for posting it. We only buy half gallons so nothing we have is reported to be affected but others may have bought the other products and maybe they will see this.
