We were so lucky that we got just enough moisture to freeze on the fruit tree buds and I don’t think any of them were damaged by the recent low temps. During the next two weeks, we should have an explosion of fruit blossoms around here. The peach and pear blooms are at the popcorn stage.
There are so many peach blossoms almost ready to open.
The pear trees are just full too. They’ll probably bloom a week or so after the peach trees bloom.
This tree has so many that they’re even coming out in places I wouldn’t expect to see blossoms or leaves.
We were told to buy late blooming apricots to keep them from getting damaged by our late freezes and apparently we did because our three plants are barely showing any signs of growth. With these warm days though, they’ll be blooming in no time.
Even the agarita has lots of buds and will have beautiful yellow blossoms soon.
Spring in Texas is gorgeous . . we have to absorb every bit of the beauty and hope that’s enough to get us through the miserable summer months!

I was just wondering about these! Hooray for making it through!
Your plants and trees sure have to be hardy, facing freezing and those summers. Looks like you got the right ones.

We seem to have relied on the right people. There are a couple of good nurseries in town that we’ve come to trust and I think they’ve given us good information.
Diana In R.R says
Good to hear about the fruit trees. I afree about the local nursery. We have one not to far and that is who we rely on for everything.

Terrific news! Terrific pictures! And you’ll have APRICOTS?!? OMG. I cannot tell you how much I *love* eating juicy ripe apricots right off the tree. They never last long enough around me to make it to the canner, I can promise you that.
I’m just praying for a good tart cherry crop this year. We had zero in 2014, after a bounty in 2013 that spoiled us. We love love love our tart cherry jam and pie filling!
Happy Spring!!

I love tart cherries for pies and jam. We could grow them in MO but there’s a slim to none chance they will produce here but . . I insisted we plant one tree because . . slim means . . there’s a chance. I hope you have a great harvest and I hope I get at least enough to make a pie!

What are you expecting to gain from the agarita? I spend a lot of effort trying to kill it. Why do you care about it blooming other than it is a Texas native weed? I’m honestly not attacking your decision….just trying to understand why you want a prickly plant.
Judy Laquidara says
The berries make wonderful jelly and syrup.
Dar in MO says
Your fruit orchard is looking beautiful. I hope you get lots of yummy produce and that no critters get there first.!
JudyL says
That’s what I hope too! 🙂

What a relief! We’re having an unusually warm spell, so our fruit trees may be in trouble this year.
