There was a time when emails from fabric shops appeared in my inbox and those caused me to stop everything and see what was new and decide how much of each fabric I needed to order. As time progressed and I realized I had more fabric than I would ever use, and I didn’t need any more fabric, and that quilting no longer made my heart sing . . it became the emails from the yarn shops that made my heart go pitter patter. For the most part, I only order from a couple of yarn shops . . thank goodness because I can surely do a lot of damage with those two shops. But I love getting emails and tweets from The Loopy Ewe and Eat, Sleep, Knit.
I suppose it’s sad to admit that my most favorite emails these days come from Blue Bell. They send out emails and make sure I know what’s the flavor of the month and there’s a list of the rotational flavors. I know I’m in the minority, probably more of an anomaly, but I don’t like chocolate (for the most part) and look at all those rotational flavors. Almost all of them have chocolate. I do want to try Sea Salt Caramel and we already had Southern Peach Cobbler. Marbled Cream Cheese Brownie is pretty darned good too and I do love brownies. Italian Cream Cake was one of our favorite flavors last year. I suppose we should try it again before it’s gone.
Earlier this week when I was in Kroger, I had a chat with the Blue Bell delivery man. He told me he had been with Blue Bell for . . I think he said 25 years. He reminded me of my dad .. he had stories to tell and everything he told me was so interesting. He told me that when he first began working for Blue Bell, they didn’t deliver any farther north than Brownwood and people from Abilene would drive down to Brownwood with ice chests and load up on Blue Bell and try to get it home.
Vince and I haven’t been to the Blue Bell creamery in Brenham in probably 20 years and the man was telling me how much it has expanded through the years. Vince and I need to make a road trip there some day.
Now that my Blue Bell email for March has arrived, I’ll just sit here and twiddle my thumbs and wait for the April email. 🙂

Did you ask the Bluebell guy if he eats all he can and sells the rest?!! I used to think that was so funny in their commercials. I can’t imagine not liking chocolate but I have heard of the rare ones who don’t..HA! My favorite flavor has always been chocolate almond (in fact, I had a sundae with it yesterday at Braum’s! Another place I missed when we left OK and TX). When we’d go get a cone, my DH used to get the most OUTLANDISH ice cream combo’s that’d make me go YUCK! But he loved em and always got what sounded gross to me. So to each his own, huh?

There was a Braum’s in Joplin and I wrote them several times and asked them to put on in Nevada but they said that was too far off their route. Now that there’s an interstate running through there, I wonder if they would do it. There’s one where Chad is and we always go there.

I spoke with a Braum’s Manager at Hillsborough TX and was told they want their delivery crew home at the end of the day.

If you and Vince decide to make the trip let us know. We’re a lot closer and still haven’t made it there!!!!! The only thing I buy for Dad has to have chocolate in it! He is a real chocolate hound!!!! When I buy for us which is seldom anymore, we tend to go the fruit flavors.

So sorry you have lost the love of quilting.

Me, too, as that is what brought me to you (and as I am not following down the knitting path).
Also, the thought of you sitting and twiddling your thumbs is so funny!

When we lived in the panhandle of Texas there was no store less than an hour away that sold Blue Bell. In the hot summer no matter how much ice you had ice cream would not make it home without melting. We used to make a big day of it when we went shopping. We went prepared with spoons and bowls and wet washcloths. We bought the ice cream then went to the van and scooped it up. The kids, now all grown, still remind me on occasion of our shopping trips.

You make me smile, Judy. I love everything EXCEPT milk and cookies and anything with coffee flavor in it. Sea Salt Caramel sounds delicious! I will have to check to see if our Kroger carries Blue Bell. I don’t go there often, and I don’t remember seeing it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

What’s funny about me is I LOVE chocolate, LOVE LOVE LOVE, but when it comes to ice cream, I’d prefer the “base” to be vanilla or something else, with chocolate added, such as in chips or chunks.

I have just had my first encounter with Blue Bell Ice Cream this week. I’m in Orlando for 6 weeks and saw it on sale at Walgreens. We bought Butter Pecan and Vanilla. The butter pecan is gone (we had company) and the vanilla was a great way to celebrate National Oreo Cookie day by making an Oreo cookie sundae foreach of us.

Funny I don’t care for Chocolate either. Interesting how many woman don’t care for it. I’ve eaten Blue Bell all my life. That is what happens when you only live 90 miles from Factory I guess. I can remember as a child riding my bike to store down the street to get me and my dear grandfather a Blue Bell” popsickle of Peach Ice cream. You could only get it in July around here back in the 50’s. Yes it would be dripping down my arm by the time I got home but was still eaten with great joy. My favorite is either wedding cake or birthday cake now along with peach. Eating the peach brings back wonderful memories of my childhood with grandparents. Thanks for the memory jog once again.
