Tuesday was a gorgeous day. In fact, Vince took the afternoon off to get some things done around here. Yesterday morning was warm but we had snow and ice in our forecast. Mid-afternoon, the weather changed. A friend was over . . she got here around 1 p.m. and she was still here when Vince got home about 4:30. When we walked outside, we couldn’t believe how much the temp had fallen. Within another hour, the wind was brutal and it was below freezing. The wind blew so hard that I really was afraid the roof was going to come off. I don’t know how it hangs on when we have that much wind. I’m thankful for a metal roof because I’m betting if we had shingles, we’d be repairing the roof often. Hardly anyone out in the country here has shingles on their roofs. The metal is better for wind and fire protection.
Anyway, by the time we went to bed, the sleet had blown all the way across our porch so that when you opened the door, you were on ice. Vince went out and got straw to spread across a path so I could take the dogs out.
We could hear the sleet hitting the roof even after we went to bed. It’s mostly an accumulation of crunchy sleet on the ground but there’s a little snow added in. This is about as white as it ever gets here . . and in March . . when I should have half my garden already planted and not a single thing is planted.
The winds have died down and though the sun wasn’t out yet when I took this picture, it’s shining brightly now. Winter in central Texas will soon be a distant memory. In less than two weeks, this is what Accuweather says it be.
And, in less than two weeks thereafter, though Accuweather didn’t say it . . it will probably be 104º and I’ll be screaming that I’ve had enough summer and I’m ready for winter. 🙂

Wow what a change huh!
84 degrees looks great! Up here in NH it’s freezing and I have so much snow around, if it went to 84 degrees so quickly we would be in a massive flood!

We got quite a bit more snow up here! YUCK! Supposed to be highs in the 60’s this time of year. I HATE this and I don’t care HOW hot it gets, I will never be longing for winter. I can cool off much easier than I can warm up. GO AWAY WINTER!

We got about 8 inches of snow yesterday! The good part is being off work today and tomorrow! Extra knitting, playing with thread time… 🙂 It’s supposed to be in the 50’s next week, which is normal for this area. I am sooooo ready for spring!

Oh, yes! Those unexpected days off are the best! Have fun, get lots done and stay warm.

Our mountains in CO received quite a bit of snow out of this last storm. We had just about an inch here. I was out today plotting out what I am going to have in what raised garden bed as it was 49º out. It will probably be the usual: Roma Tomatoes, Herbs-Basil, cilantro, parsley; some garlic, onions, peppers-jalapeno and green, red, yellow peoppers. The rest we will get from the farmers markets that start probably in June. We will also get a case or so of Peaches to can. Corn to freeze as well as other veggies/fruits to can or freeze. Last year the grapes were juiced then canned, then made into jellies.
We love salsas in the summer time so lots of peppers, tomatoes, onions and garlic. Then in the winter we just pull out the salsas.
I also wanted to say thank you for the recipes you share with us in blogland. I have gotten my hubs to try a few and he’s all for it. Second time in his life that he has been for using canned items; first was what his grandmother introduced him to when we were taking care of her.

No, you’ll be talking about all your wonderful plants and what’s growing and flowering and how big they are. 😉

In Kentucky we had the same weather change. We started out with a lot of rain, followed by the tempature drop, a lot of sleet, about 13 inches of snow overnight, sun on Thursday with temp up to 30 by afternoon and below freezing as night fell. This morning it was 5 degrees when I got up at 8. We are told to stay off the roads because any thing that was wet froze last night. 1-24 west again has traffic backed up for miles near Cadiz because they are having trouble getting up icy hills. The sun is shining beautifully though. Oh and the governor declared a State of Emergency yesterday. Thankfully though we never lost power, and all my family is safe.

I saw online the mess on Kentucky highways. It’s so slick when it starts to melt and then re-freezes at night. Overall we didn’t have it bad at all but I think just knowing it’s a matter of weeks probably before we’ll be over 100 degrees.

Did your friend get home okay? Or did they have to spend the night? Checking highway hotline today as I am supposed to go visit hubby (he is working away just now) but there is freezing rain forecast so might have to stay home!

We have had some odd weather, too (but, as always, mild). This week, the beach in Huntington Beach turned white with hail! We are back to above-normal temperatures. {shrug}
