All week I’ve been thinking about a King Cake. This photo is from the cakes I made in 2008.
In about a month, I’ll make a King Cake and maybe one to send to work with Vince. But, I still couldn’t get a King Cake out of my mind so I made Anise cookies and decorated them with my Mardi Gras sanding sugar.
Maybe I’ll call them Queen Cookies (instead of “King Cake”) and maybe they’ll become a tradition and 100 years from now, someone will read this story about how Queen Cookies came to be made about a month before Mardi Gras. Or . . maybe not! 🙂

Well…Mardi Gras season has *started* already. I was thinking of making a king cake this weekend.

If I make one this early, I’ll make 2 or 3 more and — I’ll eat them. I only allow myself to have one per year.

LOL. I was just telling a friend that I needed to buy a tiara because most folks couldn’t see my invisible crown, Judy. Perhaps you need one too!
Judy Laquidara says
I’m not sure they make tiaras that fit over my devil horns. 🙂

Bought my colored sugars last Saturday. No for King Cake (thought that sounds good) but for cookies for our next Story Time at the library. Our theme is going to be Mardi Gras.

I haven’t had a king cake in years !! Thanks !!

And maybe the oven will help heat your house while you’re baking. =)

Is there a particular recipe? Or is it the regal-colored sprinkles that makes it a king cake?
Melody says
LOL. I was thinking about king cake yesterday too. Your cookies look great!

A late friend of mine lived in New Orleans for a number of years, and she always made King Cakes. Maybe I should bake one in her honor this year…

What timing (almost)! Was it because of Epiphany that you were thinking of King Cakes? I was just reading about them as an Epiphany tradition (a day late). I thought I knew about King Cakes from Mardi Gras.
