Remember Loopy Academy? If you’re a knitter, you’re probably familiar with it and if you’re not a knitter, you probably don’t care . . simple as that! 🙂
This is the post where I first listed the projects Nicole and I were going to do and this is the post when we finished our first projects, the hats.
If we finished our hats the end of September, you would think the mittens and cowl would have been finished by the end of October, right? Nicole’s was and her photos were submitted to The Loopy Ewe. She’s all set for semester 2. Not quite how it happened on my end.
For the cowl, I did Father Time and had it finished several weeks ago. I never took a picture and posted it though. I have to say that while this is pretty enough, it was the most boring pattern I have ever made. Every time I put it down and picked it doesn’t careup again, I somehow made a mistake, despite it being the easiest pattern in the world! Nicole and I both started Father Time when I was there in September and after about 2 hours, she said NO! I’m ripping back and finding something else to make. I wish I had done the same thing. I’m glad to have this thing finished!
The mittens . . I thought both were finished except the thumbs but I was wrong. This morning, I woke up at 5:29 a.m. and the first thing I thought about was . . the minute the first drop of freezing rain hits, we’re going to lose internet and not only are my photos not submitted and my mittens weren’t finished, but today is the deadline!
For the photo of the cowl, I needed to wait til daylight to get a decent picture but I got up, grabbed the mittens and . . what? One of the mittens wasn’t even halfway finished and the other one did, in fact, still need the thumb done. It had been at least a month since I had touched the mittens and when I picked them up . . my first thought was . . these are HUGE. I told Vince I must have been making them for the Jolly Green Giant. He said “Maybe they’ll fit me!” I said . . will you wear mint green mittens? Sure .. he doesn’t care . . so now they’re finished, the photos are submitted to The Loopy Ewe and Vince has a new pair of mint green mittens.
Just to show you how much too big they are . . here’s my hand over them.
What was I thinking?

Oh Oh Oh – I know what you were thinking… You were thinking Alycia loves green and she has long arms and is always struggling to find gloves…. yep… I was on your mind the WHOLE time….

Maybe you made them big so you could wear them over another pair of mittens in the really cold weather!!!!! I do wonder how we do that sometimes, even with a swatch sometimes things just come out bigger!!!!!

I don’t know what you were thinking, but I’m thinking I want to see a photo of Vince wearing them LOL

I wondered what happened to your Father Time! I kept waiting and waiting to see pictures of the finished product posted, but never did, so I went ahead and started one of my own as a Christmas gift for my daughter. Only then did I discover why you hadn’t posted yours: it IS the most boring pattern ever! 300 yawn inducing, mind wandering stitches in each round, and if you succumb to the monotony, you easily miss a yarn over and mess up the pattern, which you don’t realize until you are several rows beyond. This one skein pattern only took me 3/4 of a skein; I just could not force myself to knit one more row! Fortunately, I was able to block the heck out of it and it looks great. She loved it! Now what to do with that second skein of yarn I purchased to make my own….

Glad you finished in time. Of course Vince likes the green mittens. They will go great with his green t-shirts! ;0)

Maybe you were going to felt them so they would be warmer and fit you better. They are a pretty shade of green.
