This afternon I walked out to go get a cake pan from the storage room and I had to laugh.
We’ve lived in town or fairly close to people all our married life and Vince has never really had a buddy that he could do things with. Here, our closest neighbor isn’t close at all but there’s a well worn path through the woods from our house to their house. In fact, the path is so well worn now that the electric meter reader uses our path when going between our two meters.
Back here in the woods, instead of folks visiting by vehicle and traveling across the roads, we cut through woods on our little all terrain vehicles. Vince had gone over to their house because he wanted help with siting in a new gun so Mr. Neighbor came over in his little vehicle and now they’re out in the woods and I hear gunshots so I guess they’re having fun.
Even funnier was that I had just had a shower, had dried my hair but had not combed nor did I have on makeup and I was out there talking to the neighbor. There was a time when I would not have left my house without makeup and the hair being fixed. We’ve come a long way.
When I see the picture of the our RTV and their Ranger, and I think how nice it is to have friends who are close but not that close and no one ever bothers us back here, I thank God again for sending us to Texas. Now if He would just send Chad, Nicole and Addie a bit closer . . maybe not all the way to Texas, but somewhere between here and there, I’d be real happy! 🙂
Life is good and other than being a bit closer to the kids, I can’t think of anything that could improve our life right now. That’s a good feeling any time of year but especially at Christmas.

how did you get to be friends without living right on top of each other is something I would like to know – I have closer neighbors than you do and I really don’t know any of them

We all know a lot of people, but to have a true friend is very precious. We women work on our relationships with our girlfriends but it’s just not the same for men. My Mal is 71 and only in the last couple of years has he developed a close friend. I am so pleased for him.

Be thankful Nicole, your son, and granddaughter are healthy. My youngest son lives 4 hours away. His 31-year-old wife has undergone chemo for breast cancer, had a mastectomy, and is now receiving radiation and oral chemo. It’s tough being so far away and knowing there is little we could do, even if we were there. And so sad for my 3-year-old granddaughter and 6-year-old grandson. They know their mommy is very sick, but they truly don’t understand cancer. In fact, adults don’t understand it. I certainly don’t.

Now you know why there is a bumper sticker here in Texas saying this “I wasn’t born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could!”
You’ve got to love Texas now that you are here. It is one great state, I must say myself. We have some of everything and could live without the other 49 states if we had to. Not many states can say that. Oh course I’m a bit one sided to this fact being 5th generation Texas and granddaughter now 7th.
Now you’re right if you could just get that precious granddaughter closer a dream could come true. I just moved next door to my daughter, granddaughter and son in law. It is great for us all. Wish we had done it sooner and so do they.Make life “grand” just like the term is( grand kids).By the way I lived across the street from my grandparents too.
So keep on praying for Chad and family to get here fast.
Merry Christmas to all of you and Happy New Year too. I enjoy reading this blog very much each day.Love all the laughs and good information too. Thanks Judy…
