Gwen asked if the yarn already in the sewing room was organized in the same way as the yarn I’ve been organizing. Pretty much!
The picture is a bit blurry. I was being nudged by a cat trying to get to the camera strap. The yarn in the sewing room is pretty much all sock yarn or yarn that I bought when I first started buying yarn other than sock yarn so mostly everything in there is single skeins. This yarn was all purchased for either socks, scarves or other one skein type projects. It was almost all bought before I began knitting sweaters.
I have it organized in boxes basically as follows:
- Wollmeise Pure
- Wollmeise Twin (and there are several tubs of each)
- Madelinetosh Sock
- Madelinetosh TML
- Madelinetosh Pashmina
- Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock
- Miscellaneous Fingering Weight (several tubs of that)
The advice I always give new quilters is this: Don’t buy a lot of fabric til you know what you’re going to prefer to use. I now use almost all tone on tone fabrics. It’s pretty rare to see florals or plaids in my quilts. I should have taken my own advice when buying yarn. I think I’ve learned my lesson. Seeing all the yarn, and I do think it has all been unearthed and placed in the appropriate tub now, has been an eye opener. But let me tell you . . there is a lot of beautiful yarn in those tubs!

I though I remembered a post about getting it in tubs and maybe even some with some patterns at some point in the past. Or did you make a list somewhere of projects and yarn? That looks beautiful through the tubs! It must be like having a rainbow in the room when looking at it.

I have a list of what’s in the tubs in the sewing room and I note which yarns I take out to use but hardly anything in those tubs under the longarm is dedicated to a pattern.

I just started knitting simple projects. I WILL ONLY HAVE ONE PLASTIC CONTAINER FULL. I needed to shout it out to try convince my self. But I do only have one container now.

That’s a very good rule. Hope you can stick with it and hope I can one day get down to one tub!

You’re going to have to knit fast, Judy. That’s a lot of yarn.

Love this pictures as I have the same sort of scene in my storage room – LOL! Those tubs are my favorites…I like how the latches keep the lids on. Have fun with all that gorgeous yarn!

How pretty it all looks like that. A candy store! I’ve got a ton of FQs I am going to give away to the senior center. Kinda went crazy with them and a lot of those I look at and wonder what was I thinking!!
