When we began making kombucha, we knew we had to do a second ferment in air tight bottles so we bought these beer bottles. They were a little less expensive other places but shipping caused them to be more than buying them through Amazon Prime. At the time we bought them, they were about $3.15 each (there’s been a price increase since we bought them).
It’s the clear bottle in the middle that we bought for $3.16 each.
The other day, Vince was out shopping (Black Friday) and I was not with him. He noticed the taller bottles on each end, filled with flavored Limonade, at Big Lots on sale for $3 each. These bottles hold a bit over 33 ounces each (compared to 16 oz. in the bottles we purchased), have the same sealing type lid and cost less than the bottles we’ve been buying, even with the limonade in them and we love the drink! We’ve had pomegranate and lemon flavored and both are very good.
Isn’t that kinda funny . . pay more for an empty bottle half the size?

That’s what I was thinking! They probably buy them by the thousands, though, and now you can benefit from the sale twice!

Yes. I’m sure they buy for way less but it’s funny that the stuff is made in France, shipped over here and then still, the whole bottle and contents sell or less than we paid for an empty bottle half the size.

If you know someone who drinks beer, ask them to save their Grosch bottles for you. They are green with the same lids.

We don’t have any friends around here who drink beer in those bottles. That would be great if we did.

The empty jars to pickle in cost about $12. We bought a large one gallon jar of vlasic pickles for $3. 99 and then used it as our pickling jar after we ate the pickles!

Can you share your recipe for Kobucha?

Amazing isn’t it .. what one can find out there when just looking around… Glad you found them !!

Even though I currently have no use for it, I could not throw away a similar bottle that I bought for the beverage inside!
It must have to do with the shipping costs…just think what it would cost for me to send ONE bottle to you. You know the beverage makers aren’t paying that!
