I am married to a crazy man. My mother told me that and I didn’t believe her til today. This is a very long blog post and there’s not one bit of useful information in here so you may or may not want to waste your time reading farther. I know . . you’re saying “every post is that way, so why the warning on this one?” 🙂
The Loopy Ewe has this little gimmick reward program. You spend all of your husband’s earnings in one year and you get a skein of yarn to match your favorite photo. We talked about that this morning. You spend all of your husband’s earnings in one year, and his entire 401K and you get to the status of “Loopy Gold” which means you get 15% off your orders for the rest of the year, but that doesn’t really matter because you’ve already spent every dime and maxed out the credit card. What really makes Loopy Gold status special is that you get a reserved spot at the next Loopy Fling. Those happen about every 18 months . . one year it’s in the spring and the next year it’s in the fall. Those flings fill up so quickly, it’s almost impossible to get a spot.
Last year, I reached Loopy Gold status but I never really intended to go to Fall Fling. It’s in September and that’s when the garden is keeping me hopping and I’ve worked way too hard to miss a week or harvesting. And, the Fling is kinda expensive. I figured with a hotel and air fare and shuttle, I’d end up spending over $1,000 and that didn’t include any shopping at The Loopy Ewe, so I didn’t consider going but when it was almost time for the Fall Fling, I was telling Vince about it and he said “Let’s go!” It was too late – the spots were all taken and the garden was in full swing and there was no way it could happen.
Actually, I placed a small order yesterday so I’m even closer . . very do-able before the end of the day year.
So, at lunch today were were talking . .
Me: Vince, you know how I said I wasn’t going to buy more yarn? Well, I’m *THIS* close to reaching Loopy Gold status and if I reach that, then I get a spot reserved for the Spring Fling in 2016 and you could go and we could make it a little vacation!
Vince: Good!
Me: So, you’re saying . . I want to get this right . . you WANT me to spend more $$ at The Loopy Ewe, right?
Vince: It’s only money!
I think we’re going to do it. First, I’m going to twist my arm and make myself place another order and then we’re going to plan a vacation to go to Spring Fling, 2016 at The Loopy Ewe!

You go girl! I don’t think there’s any way I’ll get to gold status but I may try and go next time too. It’s been on my ‘wish list’ for a couple years now. With a daughter and grandchildren in Colorado I still manage to visit the Loopy Ewe a couple of times a year. Love it there.

Sounds like so much fun! Wonder how much more I would need to spend to go too!?? Do it now because next year you are no buy…..right? Have fun!

My man must be crazy too. We go to a quilt shop and he keeps saying don’t you need some more fat quarters or that’s pretty don’t you need some yardage. I tell him that I don’t really NEED any more fabric, I have enough for a life time (or ten or twelve) and his reply is “It only money and the government can take it at anytime and we can insullate the house with the fabric and stay warm.” Such a good man!!!

I didn’t know that my husband had another wife!

Go for it! I wish I could make Loopy Gold! (I’d love to be able to go to the Spring Fling.) What fun it would be…

Just sitting here with a big smile on my face after reading this post. A little bit of crazy is a good thing – it keeps things fun and I think you and Vince have nailed it. Its nice to be at a point in your life where you can just look at each other and say “let’s do it!” I had a friend call us bonkers when I posted the snake picture. Gary said people would think we were crazy. I’m glad you’re going!

Vince is a keeper! I love your funny stories about him (and you), plus his support of your ‘habits’.

My husband is like that about my Scrapbooking supplies. Aren’t these men fun? Thanks to him I have every Scrapbooking machine or tool know to women and he will even use the machines to help if I need him. His thing is books about sustainable farming, nutrition, and the environment. I guess we will insulate with books and Scrapbooking paper. It will be lovely!
Susan says
LOL, I love your exaggeration, and I love Vince’s attitude.

I don’t think Vince is crazy at all. I think that’s really sweet. It sounds like both of you have your own special quirks that luckily work well together.
Karen langseth says
You know, when my husband says something like go shopping and spend as much as you want……that’s my code for he has something he would like to buy and isn’t brave enough to ask until I’ve spent something…..I think, I’m going to wait for Vince’s ball to drop…..
Rebecca in SoCal says
Ah, this is (one of the reasons) why I keep reading your every post. Who always needs useful information, anyway? Gotta have some fun!

A few weeks ago I told my DH that I was going to the yarn shop. He asked me what I was making. My 11 year old son declared that I didn’t have to have plans for it, “just HAVING the yarn makes Momma happy!” Sigh of happiness, my son understands! Cheers! Evelyn

You married a keeper! My husband was stunned when his sensible business executive wife suddenly became a stay-at-home mother and quilter. But, I knew he truly loved me when he picked out a nice cutting board to replace my worn out one at Christmas. When they love us as we are–crafting quirks and all–we are REALLY loved.
Terri says
I love your stories!
