If you’re in the “I’ll never shop at Walmart for any reason” crowd, you need read no farther and honestly, I’ve heard every excuse in the book about why people dislike Walmart and I say “to each his own!
It’s so “cool” to dislike Walmart but for me, I’m very thankful that they come to small towns where lots of other stores don’t want to be. We seem to always live in small towns and without Walmart, we’d be driving almost 2 hours each way for things that our local small town grocery stores don’t provide, and we’d be paying a heck of a lot more.
So . . the rest of this post is for those who don’t mind shopping at Walmart and want to save a little $$.
Have you tried their Savings Catcher? You can read about it here. I’m not going to go into all the details but there are restrictions and a few rules, though not overly cumbersome. I have the app on my iPad (you can use your phone and tap in your phone number at checkout). I come home, scan my receipt and within a few days, they’ve scanned local competitor prices/sales and I get any savings they found applied to a Wal-Mart eGift Card or you can have your savings applied to a Bluebird card. The Bluebird card is where the savings really add up! It’s by American Express and isn’t really a credit car and the dollars applied can only be used at Walmart but if you’re using the Bluebird card, the savings are doubled.
Here’s an example: Last week Kroger had Land of Lakes butter on sale. While at Walmart, I picked up two pounds of the butter, came home and scanned my receipt. Via Savings Catcher, I got back $5.56 but because I was using the Bluebird card, I got back $11.12.
This doesn’t last forever. They have it set to end in February, 2015. I hope it’s so successful that they continue it longer but it’s a great way to save on those grocery bills.
There are exceptions and rules so please check them out before signing up but it’s working good for us. No affiliation. Nothing in this for me . . just wanted to pass on info about a little extra savings.

I use it too – like you small town area and it is where I shop – I just started to do it recently and hadn’t collected any money yet, I was just letting it sit there and gather until the end of the year I think then I will start over again –

I’ve been using it (the basic savings catcher), and so far I’ve saved about 50 cents. That’s better than nothing, though! One of the checkout persons was telling me about someone who had saved $20 using the savings catcher. That would be fantastic!

Yes and if you buy ex. cookies for $3 and have a dollar off coupon which you use and those cookies are less somewhere else you get the dollar off AND the difference in the price of the product.
It sure saves having to read ads from all the grocery stores and running here and there to get something. I’m sad to learn it will be ending. I was hoping for FOREVER.

We use Wal-Mart to shop for the Lunches of Love program (we send food home with about 40 kids a week, on average). In just five weeks, I’ve already made over $50 in the savings catcher — which will feed about 13 of those kids for another weekend! 🙂

I use it, and have gotten over $60 back. I thought I was so good at asking them to match prices, but this showed me how much I was missing! Saving this money to apply to the new TV I want!

I don’t into Wal Mart a lot (mainly because I can’t stand the lines..kinda like Sam’s and Costco!!) but whenever I do go in, I do put my receipt in the savings catcher. Don’t have much built up but more than if I hadn’t used it! Didn’t know it was supposed to end that soon. YIKES!

I would like Walmart a lot more if it paid a decent wage, gave their employees decent benefits, and we, the taxpayers, didn’t have to subsidize so the Walton family could have more money. That said, I go every now and then, but not like I used to. I’ve used the savings catcher twice and have about $5. It makes me feel a little better about not running to different stores when I’m busy.

I disagree completely about the wages and benefits. My son worked part-time at Kroger in high school and part-time at Walmart in college and the pay was better at Walmart but yet no one complains about Kroger.
In my opinion, Walmart part-time jobs were never intended for folks to support a family but more for college students or folks not wanting to work full time. You can’t make those jobs fit the needs of the people who work there. The jobs are there. If people want them, great. If not . . find something better or start your own business . . just like Sam Walton did!

How do you feel about Target? They’re not unionized either etc etc etc

After my father died my mother had no money or insurance. She had never worked a day in her life. She got a job at Walmart and had really good insurance. They covered her even though she was part time. She also was able to get more per hour than any other store around her city.
Walmart literally saved her from going on welfare. She was able to stay until she qualified for Medicare.
I do the savings catcher as well. I have about $30 on it now. Frank laughs at me because I pick up all the trashed receipts in the parking lot and scan those in as well!!!!! Like I really need that 50 cents, but it is cool to get money back!!

I have no qualms about shopping at Walmart. They save me a lot of money and since we make about 40% of what we did 5 years ago, I need to save every place I can. I saw some commercials for the Savings Catcher, but I haven’t signed up yet. I guess I’ll do that tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!!

I am always happy to save money and now you can find me in the Walmart parking lot, running after receipts in the wind! LOL

The only complaint I have about Wal-Mart is there not stocking there selves and running out of medications on a constant bases, other wise I have never had any problems with them, I think there great. my opinion. GOD bless

Before reading about Chad’s experience with Walmart on your blog, I had only heard negatives and would not shop there. Now I do – Chad’s boss should give him a raise for being the cause of a new customer!
