Judy and I were emailing back and forth about the hexie projects half the day yesterday. Pinterest was a black hole and I couldn’t get out. Finally, about 1:30 p.m. I decided to go take a nap. Maybe sleep would erase the slate and I could get something in my head besides hexies. I slept 2 hours and did get up and get a few chores done. When I woke up, I remembered that I had an old template for hexies. It was in the sewing room . . somewhere. Of course, I hadn’t used it in years and years and anyone else would have thrown it away but knowing me, it had to be in the sewing room somewhere. Or, it could be in boxes in the shop, or . . there’s no telling where it was. I wasn’t going to spend a lot of time searching but I found it in the second place I looked!
Yours Truly, Inc. – are they even still around? My guess is they’re not but I have no idea. This template was printed in 1979 and it was probably one of the first things I bought when I started quilting in about 1982. It even says “Made and Printed in the USA”. How on earth have I had something so fragile for so long and I was able to find it? I amaze myself sometimes!
Then I found these mylar hexagon shapes.
Brandy’s is still around but I don’t think you can order online. I like these mylar pieces with the hole in the center where I can pin the fabric – especially when working with something that’s fussy cut and I kinda want to see where it’s lining up.
While all the quilts I loved on Pinterest were pretty and classy, mine will be neither!
I figured that if I make it small, it can be for Addie, or if I make it really small, it can be a pot holder! 🙂

Love the little frog hexie and it will be cute in a quilt or a potholder or whatever it grows up to become. Yesterday must have been “hexie day” because I ended up making a hexie Christmas ornament. I had taken the afternoon off from work, and that little project kept me busy most of the afternoon.

I have a Sizzix Fabi, bought the dies for 1″, 1 1/4″, & 1 1/2″ hexies. I use 4×6 index cards with the 1″ die and can cut 32 at one time. With the 1 1/2″ die (perfect with 2 1/2″ strips) I can cut 16 fabric hexies at a time. I use a fabric glue stick and can have a box full, ready to sew in one evening. I gave up hand sewing years ago (just to slow), but hexies brought me back around. Now I have 3 projects going: a Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses, maybe a Grandmother’s Flower Garden and one quilt I have designed with the hexies out of batiks – appliqued with a modern feel. I really enjoy the portability.

Yours Truly, Inc. was Marti Michell’s old company. The years were something like 1972-1980-something according to her website. It’s under her bio.

Seems to me that you’re destined to make more hexies!? I’ve seen some cute blocks that are used as mug mats. Love that frog!

Adorable! I’ve been using card stock the size of my hexi paper punch – and using the clover clips to hold the corners in place for me for basting. I think that might work on a fussy cut one as well – will have to try it! I like them for long car trips -it doesn’t bother me to sew and hubby likes to drive.

I love hexies, they are so relaxing for me. On the Fort Worth Fabric blog someone did a real pretty hexie garland for the Christmas tree.

The Yours Truly company was purchased by Dale Burdett. They didn’t last long after the purchase.
I had all their templates and still to and they are the best thing for making original design quilts as the pieces are scaled so that different shapes can be used together.
