My Hopes Were Dashed

First Batch of Sauerkraut

One of the things Addie says that just cracks me up . . and I think you have to see her facial expression but she puts so much feeling into it . . any time something isn’t quite right, whether it’s a toy out of place or she spills something, she will say “Ohhhh, nooooo! What happened?” I caught myself saying that today.

On September 22, there was a hiring seminar for the new Aldi. I suppose I definitely need to get a life when I’m this excited about a new grocery store, right? With a hiring seminar in September, I was thinking they might be opening towards the end of October.  I kept asking Vince “Have you been by there?” No . . he isn’t excited about it at all. I’d ask him “Can’t you ask someone at work if they know when it’s opening?” Nope . . he doesn’t care enough to even ask.

Today I had to:

  1. Take Speck to the vet for his shots and his nails to be trimmed. I was a terrible mom and left him there so I could go run my errands and not have to take him all the way home and then go back to town to run errands.
  2. Go to the car wash and get the bugs off the car from my trip.
  3. Go to Wal-Mart and buy groceries since Aldi isn’t open yet.

That’s it . . I have a limit of 3 stops when I go out.

There are several car washes around town but one happens to be real close to the new Aldi store so that’s the one I chose. Then I drove by the new Aldi .. expecting to see the shelves fully stocked, just waiting for the Grand Opening. Instead . . I saw this:

Aldi

Aldi

What the heck? It’s going to be months! I was talking to a lady at Wal-Mart and she said she heard it would open in February. Are you kidding? They have the best cookies and interesting foods at Christmas and I was really looking forward to that. I guess I won’t be getting anything from this store for a while.

No wonder they don’t have a date on their website for our grand opening.

But, Judy, just remember that once Aldi’s IS open, they will be there for years to come! So try to focus on that. That being said, I can hardly wait for those wonderful European chocolates to arrive and the nut trays too and……….at our local Aldi’s! We have at least 8 of them in our city! (Now that wasn’t nice of me to mention that while you’re waiting for a single store, was it? Sorry!!!)

Oh, Judy, how disappointing! I sort of take mine for granted, because there are THREE I pass regularly in my travels around Knoxville/Oak Ridge. If there’s anything special you want, I will be happy to get it and mail it to you! We have a Whole Foods opening here, also within about 4 miles of my house – looks maybe two weeks farther along than your Aldi’s, but the sign is up, so I know it will make it eventually. Aldi’s is fine for most of what I want, but I do like to wander places like Whole Foods and Fresh Market. =)

Patience, patience!! Aren’t there any other grocery stores to shop at besides Walmart?

I know what you are feeling. We have been waiting for the promised COSTCO to open up in our town for a long time. It’s been in about the same stage of construction as your Aldi’s picture for several months now.

Some would suggest that we get a life, but I KNOW we already have busy ones–you especially!

    take care

It took an extraordinary long time for our local DFW area Aldi to get built and opened. Ours was a completely new building. I guess you will just have to be patient quite a bit longer.

I would feel the disappointment just as you do Judy! I love the variety of a new & special grocery store! I must also admit that whenever I see a new product that interests me advertised in magazine or even on tv especially a product that is for cleaning I immediately try to find it to purchase. Of course, part of the hype is to present new products for months before available so that is ingrained as a must have!! Oh, the interesting lives we have Judy!!
