I know many of my readers will think I’m nuts for getting so excited about a grocery store but . . we’re getting an Aldi. I would never have dreamed that would happen. How I found out is pretty funny.
Sunday we were sitting at the table eating and I said to Vince “I wish we had an Aldi!” He looked me straight in the eyes and said “We ARE getting one!” NO! I thought he was joking.
I got up from the table, not even finished eating, went to the local newspaper’s website and searched for “Aldi” because they put everything in the newspaper if we’re getting a new business. Nothing was mentioned that I could find. I went back to the table and said “Why are you telling me that when you know it isn’t true?” He kept telling me who all had told him that it was true. He even knew where they were putting it. Thank goodness, they’re renovating an already built place and it will be open soon . . I hope.
Then I googled “Aldi and Brownwood” and sure enough . . they have a job fair coming up next week and there was other info about it and we’re getting an Aldi. I really like that store!
Here’s a blog post from a few years ago where I compared Aldi’s brand of steel cut oats to a name brand. The name brand was $5.99 and the same size at Aldi was $1.99, and without knowing which brand was which, we all chose the Aldi oats.
I can hardly wait til it’s open. Vince said “You know it will be crazy the first week or so. I wouldn’t go for a while.” I know that’s true but I doubt I’ll be able to stay away for long!
What does that say about me that a new grocery store in town could make me so happy?

I wish we had an Aldi. My mother has one near her in Banbury, England. One of my sons is at uni near DC, we found one near by. We couldn’t really buy anything because it was summer and a good drive home.
Aldi are expanding…. maybe we will get one here.

We have an Aldi’s in Kalamazoo, 6 miles away and shop there all the time. We love it too. Glad you’re getting one 🙂

I’ll have to look for steel cut oats at our Aldi’s. I’ve been buying it on sale at Big Lots, but it sounds like it would be much cheaper at Aldi’s.

Aldi’s is one of my favorite grocery stores. I have not tried all of the things they sell, but at our Aldi’s the fresh produce is always so good! All summer long I have been buying blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and raspberries when they have them. With greek yogurt they make a great breakfast or lunch.

We have one 15 minutes away, I don’t normally go in there but some of our family loves Aldi. Guess I will have to start stopping by when I am in town.

It says you appreciate the finer things in life – Aldi’s! Generally speaking, I’ve mostly found them in small towns, but we do have three in the Knoxville area, and one is only about 3.5 miles from my house. I love their produce, especially, and the price of milk is great, too! I completely understand why you’d be excited. It’s a great alternative to H.E.B. and Wal-Mart, our usual choices when we were in Texas.

Congratulations! Be sure and like them on FB too! I went there today, I love all the seasonal things they have, and the fresh fruit. Today I found sour dough bread!!!

Now don’t hate me or get jealous — but we have two of them and they are both only 10 mins. from my house — in different directions. I shop there a lot too. Great prices on eggs, milk and butter.

Good news for you! I miss my Aldi store. Our grandkids love their string cheese. Closest one to me now is in Temple…a wee bit out of my comfort zone. I did stock up on a few items last time I was in MO and brought them back to TX. If we had been stopped by the highway patrol, they would have had a good laugh out of my trunk full of canned goods and fabric.

They are all over the place here in Grand Rapids. I have one about a mile away and another about 3 miles away. Another one is on the way to my parents and I go by it at least once a week. Another one about 8 miles in the opposite direction. I shop there on occasion. It is amazing how much food you can get for $20.

Yea!! So happy for you. I love the Aldi too. Have ever since I lived in Germany. Their produce is better than most I find in Walmart or Ingles. I know that you make your own bread, but they have a loaf of plain bread for .89. You can’t buy it anywhere for that price anymore. The plus for me is getting German mustard, strudel, chocolate, wine etc. I have found that their generic lines are better than anyone else’s. So glad that you like Aldi too. 🙂

I love Aldi’s. We have 2 close by and I like shopping there. The produce is especially great as it is fresh and the prices beat everyone else in town. I have even bought my week’s grocery there and saved a lot of money. Glad for you to be able to shop there soon.

We have several Aldi’s around here and I don’t care for them. I’d much rather go into Kroger (there’s one of their HUGE ‘premium’ stores opening up the road soon). The newest Aldi opened a couple of weeks ago and I ran by to get their little bag of freebies..the only thing I liked was the little bag of trail mix & roasted peanuts (although I admit, I haven’t popped the popcorn yet!). I DID buy steel cut oats but haven’t tried yet. We have a WinCo foods that will be opening soon and it’s huge so will be interesting to see what’s different about them.
