For you non-knitters, who probably aren’t reading this anyway . . KAL means “Knit Along”.
Laura Aylor has a new hoodie pattern, Ashore, and she’s hosting a KAL and there are prizes! This pattern is very similar to Brier Island that I did last winter and wore almost every cold day (we don’t have many!) and I just love it. I love the little pouch pocket in front. I love the band at the bottom. Then, Laura goes and adds a hoodie and made a few other changes and that makes Brier Island even better!
Even though I’m a huge fan of Laura Aylor’s patterns, I almost convinced myself NOT to do this KAL. There’s way too much going on around here right now:
- Kidney Stones
- Camp Loopy
- The Garden
- Yarn! I don’t have the yarn for this project and I don’t need to be ordering any more yarn.
But, I knew come about mid-August, if not sooner, I’d be so sorry I hadn’t done it, when everyone was showing pictures of their hoodie, and getting prizes so I said . . what the heck? What’s one more thing added to the mix? If I don’t get something done, at least I tried and if I hadn’t tried, I for sure wouldn’t have gotten it done. So, I’m trying.
Now, about the KAL – the most important thing for me is that Laura has broken this pattern down into steps. Each week, she will post another step, and the day before she posts the next step, she will draw prizes from the list of those who are keeping up and posting. At the end, there are BIG PRIZES for those who finish on time. I can do that . . maybe . . but again . . if I don’t try, I definitely cannot.
If you would like to participate . . and I think Patchwork Times readers should have a huge presence in this KAL . . don’t you? . . then all you need to do is go to Laura’s Workshop on Ravelry, join if you aren’t already a member, then become active in the posts dealing with either planning or whatever the current step might be. Simple enough, right?
You know how much I love knitting but it’s lots of fun when there’s a group project and we can all see each other’s progress along the way, ask questions and get immediate answers.
Who’s in? Anyone else going to join in the Ashore Hoodie KAL?

I didn’t realize that she was releasing the details throughout the KAL. While I love the pattern, I’ll have to pass on the KAL. I’ll be lucky to get Camp Loopy Project 2 done. I’ve been knitting on the body for 4 hours today and it doesn’t seem any longer.

I actually put this pattern in my library last week. I finished Loopy Project 2 over the weekend, got my new yarn today, but I just don’t think I can make 2 sweaters in August. I might keep an eye on the KAL, though.

I really like this – and the idea of a KAL might help keep me on track.
Haven’t made a sweater yet, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have just the right yarn stashed!
Bought the pattern and will start my swatch tonight.
