The rain got so close to us that we could smell it but it passed us by.
I was out in the garden watering a few things that really needed to be watered . . just in case it didn’t rain.
I could hear the thunder and the guys on the radio say “If you can hear the thunder, you’re close enough to be struck by lightning!” so I left the garden.
Then I noticed Mr. and Mrs. Vulture still sitting atop the pole. They weren’t worried about the lightning, but they probably don’t listen to Brian and Leland on the radio in the mornings either so they don’t know that they’re close enough to be struck by lightning when they can hear the thunder. I wish they would get struck . . all the vultures in Brown County . . struck by lightning. That would be cause for celebration . . till all the deer and turkey carcasses ended up on the side of the road with nothing to eat them I suppose.
I figured my luck . . I’d better get in the house because if anyone was going to get struck by lightning . . it would be me!
The storm clouds just kept rolling past us but there’s rain in the forecast today and tomorrow so my fingers are crossed that we’ll get a little bit of rain around here.

Judy I would love to send you all the rain we have been getting here since yesterday afternoon. We really don’t need it. If only I could figure out a way…
Hope you are feeling a little bit better.
Sharon in Michigan says
Wow, those clouds look vicious!

It rained all through my commute last night, adding an extra 45 minutes. If I could have sent it your way, I would have.
From what I understand, the buzzards just go for stuff already dead; it’s the raptors that are taking the squirrels, bunnies, cats and tiny dogs around here. The buzzards do a great job of the deer that have been killed by traffic.

Here we have turkey vultures and black vultures. The black ones will kill small animals, even newborn calves. Vince has a pesticide license and in order to maintain it, he has to take continuing education and at his last class, the farmers/ranchers were really fired up about the vultures killing the calves, sheep, chickens, etc.

Hi Judy,
If you count the seconds between when you see lightening and when you hear the thunder – that will tell you how far away the lightening is. 4 seconds = 4 miles.
Stay safe & I hope you feel better, tons better! real soon.

We had spits of rain, ended up for the day with about a tenth. Coming back from the airport it was really black to the north and west but we didn’t get the storms. Guess west of I-35 got dumped on though. In Texas you are smart to get inside if you hear thunder, it can come on very quickly.

It rained on the other side of the street from us!! We needed some, too!

We had the same issue a couple of days ago..got so dark I thought for sure it’d rain. I think we got about 75 seconds of rain here–HA! But our best chance is tomorrow so hope it happens. Can’t you peg those stupid vultures? Vince could use em for target practice maybe? I cannot stand vultures..so ugly!
JudyL says
They’re federally protected so no . . we’re not going to touch them.
Sherrill says
Oh, EWW! I didn’t know they were protected! Yuck, why?! LOL
