Yay! Good news! This is my interpretation of what the doctor said and even though it is probably totally wrong, you’ll get the picture . . maybe.
When I was there on July 3, the “thing” that had come loose was still attached to my retina. It was like a string of yarn just floating but still nailed down at the retina. During the few days following that visit, the wavy yarn thing became a circle and it almost looks just like the shape of an eyeball. What happened was . . the wavy yarn thing became detached from the retina and connected its ends into the circle. The circle is now a “floater” and will probably always be there.
The good news is . . when it became detached from the retina, it did not tear the retina, as sometimes occurs. A tear would have let to eye surgery.
Think about it like this . . you have a string hanging from your garment . . you tug at it and it breaks right at the edge of the garment. No harm done. Or, you might pull on it and the seam rips and you have to repair the seam. Make sense?
Anyway, I was real happy to get some good news. I desperately (as you might imagine) needed good news!
Thank you all for the thoughts, prayers, notes and offers to come and help me. We’re going to be just fine but we will both be glad when things return to “normal” around here.

Judy, that is wonderful news! And yes, the way you describe it makes total sense! Love the analogy! Now those kidney stones need to get taken care of as soon as your doctor’s arm is better! I am really happy for you! You needed and deserved the great news about your eye!
Angie says
That is VERY good news about your eye!
Theresa says
I’m so glad that your eye won’t need surgery! I have a lot of floaters (always have) and unless I’m playing center field in bright sunlight, it really doesn’t affect me.
Linda in NE says
Sure am happy to hear your good news. Anything that messes with the eyes is scary.
Rebecca in SoCal says
Good to see that! Even if laser, eye surgery is not to be taken lightly.
The floater might become a tiredness indicator. Like Theresa, I see floaters in bright light, but more when I’m tired. They also serve as an excuse, I mean reason, not to do things with sudden acceleration/deceleration. Not that they come up a lot in your life, but things like roller coasters or other thrill rides, and NO bungee jumping! 😀

Great news. Considering what our friends went through recovering from retina surgery I was trying to figure out how that and kidney stone surgery was going to work. So glad it is not needed. Really good news!

Yay!! Been praying for you today.
Sue in Scottsdale, AZ says
Great news. I have a floater and like others have said, at this point I am used to it and only really bothers me in bright sunlight. I’m glad you got such a good report.

Wonderful…just wonderful!!!!
Hopefully your floaters will only be the subject of funny stories in the future.
A friend and I had lunch one day and started talking about our floaters and how we have to turn our heads sometimes cause the floater is blocking the face of someone when watching tv. As you can imagine we were laughing and tilting our heads showing each other how we tilt to try to see past the floater. Suddenly we realized we had drawn a LOT of attention to ourselves in the small restaurant. Can’t think of a floater without thinking about that lunch.
Susan says
Excellent news! I know it’s a relief there’s no surgery required.

Your explanation was perfect and I understood every word. This is great news. Hope you have a great rest of the week.
It’s raining here near Palestine, TX and the temp is 73 degrees….OMG in mid July that’s unheard of but I’m greatful…..no watering the garden.
Take care my friend!!

Great news – hope you are feeling better.

Good news on that eye, and let’s hope the kidney stone surgery will go well too!
I also have a very large floater in my right eye. My eye doctor is hopeful that eventually gravity will allow it to “settle” lower and not obstruct my vision. But I’m just glad it isn’t anything more serious, like you stated – it’s could be much worse.
Pamela Johnson says
Glad to hear good news!!!!

Yay! Wonderful to hear your eye is fine and hoping you get through the next few days without issue until you get the kidney stone removed. I don’t know how the doctor will go in and get the stone but I hope it’s not a horrible process. I had robotic surgery to remove a tumor on my kidney and the recovery was so much better than if the doctor had to do it the other way. Praying all goes well for you, up to, during, and after your surgery!
