Just as we were getting ready to go on vacation last week, the Camp Loopy Project #2 details were published. This is our challenge: A project that reminds you of your favorite place to vacation or relax. It could be based on color, name . . whatever. So, I chose . . Louisiana . . my favorite place to be! Before you start thinking I don’t like Texas anymore, remember . . this is June. That means snakes, grasshoppers, drought, heat, scorpions and all the bad things Texas has to offer. By September or October, Texas will be back in the #1 spot for me. In fact, just this morning, I came in from letting the chickens out and had this conversation with Vince:
Me: Dang . . it is so humid out there! (We never have much humidity here.)
Vince: I’ll bet it’s more humid in Louisiana!
Yep, I checked Accuweather and it was 79% humidity here and 93% humidity in Lake Charles. Not much difference! 🙂
Back to Camp Loopy . . with Louisiana being my favorite place to vacation, relax and live . . and with LSU’s colors being purple and gold . . that’s what I decided . . something purple and gold.
Carabe is a cardigan that I had been wanting to make and had purchased the pattern. There was a glimmer of a thought that I might make it during MadMay (Madelinetosh’s big month of projects made using Madelinetosh yarn) but I ended up not even doing MadMay.
Then I noticed a Carabe Kids version!
So I decided to knit Carabe for Nicole and Carabe Kids for Miss Addie! I would use purple and gold. My first choice for yarn was Malabrigo Rios and I was going to have to knit Nicole’s with purple as the main color and Addie’s with gold as the main color because The Loopy Ewe didn’t have enough purple but after placing my order, they let me know that the purples weren’t all from the same dye lot and there wasn’t enough of either dye lot to make Nicole’s sweater so I had to come up with another plan.
By the time I got their email, we were gone and I had limited internet access and didn’t even bring a computer with me. Vince had his computer but the last thing I wanted to do was be caught using HIS computer to order more yarn! 🙂 Shopping for yarn on my cell phone, while in a restaurant restroom is not my favorite way of buying yarn! 🙂
In order to find sufficient yarns in the right weight, I totally lost the “purple” and ended up with more of a reddish pink, or “cerise”, which is what it’s called.
Addie’s sweater needs DK weight and Nicole’s sweater needs Worsted weight. I’m actually glad my first choice didn’t work out because I hadn’t even noticed that and was getting Worsted weight for both of them. I love it when things work out so well, despite my almost doing the wrong thing!
Only Nicole’s sweater will be made for the Camp Loopy project. I’ll be doing good to get that one done . . no way I could get two done!
From TLE’s photos, it looks like Addie’s Hollywood Cerise may be a little pinker than Nicole’s but that’s ok . . they’ll be close enough.
The yarn should arrive today and hopefully will be here in time for my yarn report.

OK, I laughed out loud at the picture of you in a restaurant restroom, ordering yarn on your phone! And then of Vince wondering what took you so long! (Although you have enough experience ordering yarn to accomplish it even on the phone).
