We’ve been away for about a week. We had a wonderful trip and it’s now time to return from vacation mode to real life mode . . back to getting up early with the chickens, tackling the weeds in the garden and . . grasshoppers! 🙁 We had a lady who came out twice a day and took care of the chickens, turkeys and Boots but we boarded Speck. He needed his teeth cleaned, his nails trimmed, his shots so we let him spend a few days with the vet.
This picture was taken through the car windshield going 70 miles per hour down the highway. I wasn’t driving . . don’t get nervous. I’m thankful for the wide shoulders and excellent back roads in Texas! I’m thankful for a wonderful few days away, for safe travels and that Vince was a little more open to my idea of where we might retire!
The bad news . . the lady taking care of the chickens couldn’t get the turkeys to go into the coop. We’d been having the same problem but Vince and I would go in and catch them and put them up. She couldn’t catch them one night and yep . . something dug under the fence and caught them and they’re gone! Darned critters!
While we were gone, we did a little investigating of some possible retirement locations. Who knows . . will we retire here or somewhere else? My guess is . . somewhere else.
Anyway . . home is a good place to be . . where ever home happens to be at the moment.

My condolences on the loss of your turkeys. Sometimes an experiment just doesn’t end well. You did a great job hiding the fact that you were gone. I’m glad you had a good getaway.

Glad y’all had a good trip. Sorry about the turkeys :-(. And, you’re so right – home is a good place to be.

Welcome back! Sorry about the turkeys. You will have to fill us in on the place in Waco when we get together-you know how it is, that is to close to home for us so we haven;t been there yet!

I was always impressed by the secondary road system in TX. Best I’ve ever seen any where. So sorry about the turkeys. Don’t blame you one bit if you retire elsewhere. It has been a struggle to live the lifestyle you have dreamed of with all you have to contend with there.

Judy…..sorry to hear about the wild critters……
I understand about the adds….and how much it costs to do the blogs, but now they have a big add on top and a big add on the bottom….so the space you can read your great blog is in about 21/2 inches square….

We’re working on it. Please be patient. I have had to make some changes and we’re still messing with it to get it right.

Sorry about your turkeys. The really sucky part about having all these pets, I mean errr animals…… 🙂
I cried when something ate our toddler chicks. But now we’ve got 15 more toddler chicks and they are annoying me right now lol. Nothing compared to your herd tho!
You hide that your are gone really well. I noticed the wonkiness with the ads and figured it was giving you problems. And between that and the millions of things you have to take care of I never once thought “vacation”! Hope you had a wonderful time and got some good ideas for retirement!

I love the “blue” of the sky in your picture. It makes me wish I were there. (even though it is sunny and hot here today…)

Oh NO!! ALL the turkeys?!! Good grief! Glad you guys had a safe trip out and back. I think I’d hate to leave a place after EVERYTHING you guys have done there!!! But you do what you gotta do for you! How much longer do you think Vince’ll work?

Its always nice to get away for a bit, but its even nicer to return home. I’m sorry you lost your turkeys. 🙁 We don’t know where we want to retire either, but getting out and exploring the options is a good place to start.
Rebecca in SoCal says
How nice to have options! You even have experience in a number of places. I can understand why YOU might like a chance to “retire” and choose which activities to keep up.
Thanks for keeping up with the blog even while on vacation.

How soon is retirement? Isn’t it hard to plant trees, install solar, etc knowing you may leave? Will it likely be acreage again? Sorry to hear about the turkeys
