Chickens can be as aggravating as children! Why is it that all of the chickens will lay their eggs in the egg boxes except one?
Even if I let them out of their run before they’ve had time to lay, all of them will go back into the coop to lay . . except one! Except that I hear her cackling when she’s laying, and I realize the cackling isn’t coming from inside the coop, I’d never know she was laying her eggs somewhere else. I wonder how many snakes she’s feeding?
It’s not fair to keep all the chickens locked up til they’ve all laid their eggs but dang it . . it isn’t fair for me to have to go searching to find where one wayward hen has laid her egg!
This time of year, when it’s so hot, unless I hear her and know she has just now laid the egg, I don’t keep any of them that I find. The last thing I need is a bad egg!

I think you could do the ‘float test’ to see if those eggs are good, couldn’t you? Bad eggs float. But, you probably have plenty of eggs not to worry about a few 🙂 I think that with how many chickens you have, that one wayward chicken might be stew around here – because if you can’t keep/use her eggs, then she’s just eating up feed and costing money….

None of our chickens lay eggs until the afternoon. Fortunately, they do go back into the coop to lay!

i thought eggs didn’t have to be refrigerated….so do you toss them because they got too hot? i don’t know chickens.

I think you have a ‘bad egg’ in the rogue chicken!! HA

I think I have a faint idea of how annoying she is. One of my stupid girls decided to climb up a tree last night. Could not convince her to come down, no matter what I did. So that’s where she slept. I was afraid something would get her, but she was still there this morning. And she had the nerve to be crying and carrying on because she was all alone! Grr… 🙂 I don’t know what I’ll do when these girls start laying…
