It’s hard to believe that we’ve built 4 coops since we’ve been here and since two of those are duplexes, we have 6 chicken living areas and 7 if you count the little tiny one we bought at Tractor Supply. Here’s the latest one being moved to the new location.
It was on the hand cart so it hadn’t fallen over . . it was being moved out of the shop and into the permanent location. If you’ll remember way back, we did have a coop that took a tumble.
That was in Missouri . . the green grass tells you it isn’t Texas! Moving that coop out of the shop and into its permanent location was interesting!
Anyway, the new little coop will be a temporary holding type coop and it will also be where we put “couples” when I want to get purebred fertilized eggs.
After he got it all set up, Vince had to get inside and make sure everything was secure enough that we would have no escapees.
Once the coop and run were secure, it was time to go into the coop where the Iowa Blues and new bantams were living, catch the bantams, hand them to me and I’d run walk fast and take them to the new coop, then go back and get more. Done! We got them all moved and into their new home . . which is temporary. There are 11 new bantams who will stay in the new coop/run while getting used to the bantams in the adjoining run and then we will transfer the new bantams in with the old bantams.
Yes, raising chickens is about a full time job around here.

I enjoy your stories each and everyday. I think you have a full time career with your chickens. So much fun.

You are so lucky to have such a handy husband! He is a keeper!
P.S. He may as well get started on the next coop right away. If your chicken habits are anything like your fabric and yarn escapades this is only the beginning………….Good thing you have 40 acres!

Maybe I need to rethink the idea of chickens. Sounds as addictive as quilting. lol

When you mentioned that is where you will put “couples”, my first thought was, “Ah, the honeymoon suite”. 🙂

Love the adventures!

Joyce used my comment. I was thinking “honeymoon suite” as well. It is so good to hear how well things are for you both. Take Care!

Love the chicken stories – but I want to see a photo of Vince trying to get OUT of the chicken coop – surely he doesn’t go through the door ??.

The big coops all have “walk thru” doors, as well as little chicken doors that raise. We sometimes have to go in though we try to avoid it.
