We love split pea soup and technically, it isn’t on the diet because of the peas but . . I made it anyway. There was still one ham left in the freezer from last year’s pig we bought so I cooked it earlier this week. I didn’t want to have ham for the rest of the week so I cut all the meat of the bone, froze the bone, froze part of the meat and used the rest to make a big pot of split pea soup.
Three pounds of split peas is about as much as this pot will hold once the soup is made.
Seven quarts of split pea soup with ham and carrots. That’s something we will both look forward to having!

Love love LOVE split pea soup!! But I’m the only one that will eat it, so I tend to freeze it in small batches after it’s made. That way I can eat it when I want, without having to worry about it going bad. I have a ham for dinner tomorrow, so I’ll be making more soon!! Yum!

Did you “can” this or just freeze it in the jars? My husband “went nuts” yesterday and cooked two hams. He has another one thawed out and he claims he is going to do turkey tomorrow (but I don’t even know if he thawed it. Big blow to my ego as the kids think their stepdad is a better cook than I am (which is true!!) I am scared to tackle big things in case I ruin them! Anyway, I will have to chop some of the ham up and freeze it too as even though there are four of us, it would take a long time to eat all that! Happy Easter to you and Vince and to Chad and family. Blessings across the miles….
