I’m not going to say which one of us said what because I know you all love me the best but this is a conversation we’ve been having all day.
Person #1: They’re having bad storms north of us. Did you hear about them?
Person #2: North of us? Where?
Person #1: Missouri . . around Joplin.
Person #2: Joplin? That isn’t north of us! Oklahoma or Kansas is north of us!
Person #1: Is Missouri not north of us?
Person #2: Northeast!
Person #1: Well, that’s north!
No wishy washy straddling the fence . . Person #1 or Person #2? 🙂
Donna Williams says
I think person #2 is more accurate.
Jeanette says
Person number 1, of course! North is north is north. Just ask the weather man here who calls everything east of I75 “eastern Kentucky”. Never a northeast or a southeast or east central to be heard.
Cathy Odle says
#2 is the most accurate. #1 is also right, North is North. 🙂
JOY says
I agree with Cathy 😉
Missy Pierce says
I’d have to say person #1 is right. Notheast is still north in my book.
Rhonda says
I’m going with Person #2. Final answer…..hehehehe
Paula Love says
Person #1 is correct. Person #2 must be an engineer and is just being more precise!
Claudia W says
Person #1 is more correct. Person #2 is thinking “just north’ or ‘adjacent to us, north’.
Sherrill says
Well, DUH, #2 of course!! Or wait, maybe #1 is right. Now look, quit tryin’ to drag us in the middle of all this!! HAHA
Vickie VanDyken says
Person # 1…North is north no matter if it’s North east or North west it’s all still North….and by the way ……most everything is North of Texas 🙂 Just like everything is South of Alaska ….IMHO
If that is as bad as the arguments get…your good!!!!
Tinkerfeet says
I say person#1. North is north.
Susan says
You two crack me up. Northeast is still north of Texas.
NancyB in AZ says
Person #1 is correct……person #2 is an ENGINEER !
Karen Langseth says
Its Vince isn’t it??? He wants you to be specific, but generalities are fine with him!!!
Dar in MO says
I think I’d go with #1.
Teri Jordan says
#1 is speaking in general…..and Vince is nitpicking……LOL. I think all husbands do that…..or maybe all men
Brandy M. says
#2 is “more” accurate, but #1 IS accurate, too!
🙂
Sherry V says
Oh you two are too funny! Both are correct…..but #1 is more my style. LOL
Lynn says
This is so my house – so I’m pretty sure I know who is who…. Both are right. One of you just wants to be very literal. North East is still North or it would just be East. 🙂
coloradolady says
number one all the way!
Laura says
Person number one is right. Person number 2 wants to argue.
Margaret R says
I would go with number one. That is how I think. It drives my hubs nuts. Just one of the perks.
Lori says
Hmm…does it help if I tell you that I live very near Joplin and I think if Texas as south? Yes, yes, I know, immediately south of me is Arkansas, then Louisiana, but Texas is next to Louisiana, so that makes it south. Right?
Joyce says
I’m sure number one is right. 🙂 Since I was in the path of those storms (in Southeast Missouri), I can say we’re definitely “north” of Texas–the “east” part matters not…
Hilary says
#1 is right brained. #2. Is left brained.
Judy. Vince. Both right but #2 is being picky. Everything is north of
us.
Penny says
I am married to an engineer. There is no approximation in their minds. Exactness in all things. Also no getting away with exaggeration.
Barbara says
I’ would not be happy with a description of north when it is really northeast or northwest.
I don’t think it is a matter of right or wrong, just better communication..
SarahB says
I love it! You two are always worth a laugh… yep, engineers are specific, the rest of us generalize. Is it wrong that I can see you two having this conversation over dinner? LOL
Rebecca in SoCal says
North is PART OF north-east; therefore, the storms were indeed north of you.
Sounds like an argument we have here (which is going to make it sound like I’m taking the other side): just because something is farther west than us (like SIX state capitols*), doesn’t mean you can call them “west” of us.
So have you both agreed to let the comments settle it?!
*bar bet!
liz says
This time of year, I would be concerned about the difference between north and northeast. In Oklahoma, severe spring storms with rotation tend to travel sw to ne direction. But, there are always exceptions which caught a lot of people off guard last year when one of the big storms turned east and then traveled a bit to the southeast.
Of course, there were tornadoes in Denton TX, and that’s a bit closer than Mo, even though it is in the same direction of northeast.
Just stay safe!
Jackie says
You two are so funny. I always side with you.
Lynn says
I go with person 1, but then I am a woman. Person 2 is just being pedantic. This is general conversation, not a geograhical analysis
Marilyn Emmons says
Person 1. P.s. love your solar snafu, and your pointed remarks to critics.. Look forward to hearing about your adventures every day!
VickiT says
When talking direction like this North would encompass all those directions of North – Northeast or Northwest.
BUT, if any portion of Missouri is NOT actually North of where you are since you are talking about that state, then North would not be correct in this instance and Northeast would be the correct answer.
Brandy M. says
Sooooooo……? Do we get to hear who is who in this scenario?
🙂
carol craven says
Person 2
Person one must be a man
I have the same conversation with mine daily
