This is the block we’ll be making this month. It’s 12″ finished/12-1/2″ unfinished. You will be making two blocks.
Cut the following pieces:
Fabric 1:
- 8 – 4-1/2″ squares
- 2 – 5-1/4″ squares. Cut these on the diagonal twice to yield 8 triangles
Fabric 2:
- 4 – 2-7/8″ squares. Cut these on the diagonal once to yield 8 triangles. (Label these as “small”)
- 4 – 2-1/2″ squares
Fabric 4:
- 2 – 5-1/4″ squares. Cut these on the diagonal twice to yield 8 triangles
Fabric 5:
- 4 – 2-7/8″ squares. Cut these on the diagonal once to yield 8 triangles. (Label these as “small”)
- 4 – 2-1/2″ squares
Fabric 6:
- 2 – 5-1/4″ squares. Cut these on the diagonal twice to yield 8 triangles
Instructions:
1. Using the 2-1/2 squares from Fabrics 2 and 5, make 2 four patches.
2. Sew the Fabrics 2 and 5 triangles (labeled as “small”) together as shown below. Make 4 of each set.
3. Sew the above sections to the four patch. Make 2.
4. Using the triangles from Fabrics 4 and 6, and the Fabric 1 squares, make 8 of the following sets:
5. Using 4 of the above units, sew them to opposite ends of the piece with the 4 patches in the centers. Make 2.
6. Sew the Fabric 1 triangles to the pieces from Step 4 as shown below.
7. Sew those pieces to the larger pieces to complete the blocks:
It may help to see the photos of the actual block as I was making it. Please note that I used Fabric 3 instead of Fabric 6 . . I wasn’t paying attention . . so don’t let my mistake confuse you.
If your January through March blocks are done, please share a picture. On Friday I will draw for the winner . . who will receive a Stash Pack from Vicki Welsh’s Etsy Shop. When you need (or want) hand dyed fabric, please remember Vicki . . who sponsors this Mystery.

Thank you for another lovely set of blocks! I’m enjoying this quilt.

Since I used the computer today to quilt a customer quilt, I jumped right in and made the blocks for April while it stitched. I’m impatient to see how they work together in the quilt.

Hi Judy, the first instruction says to use the 2.5″ squares from fabrics 2 and 4 to make the four patch. but we did not cut 2.5″ squares from fabric 4. do you mean fabric 5? thanks I love these squares!

Yes . . Fabric 5. Thank you. I’ve corrected it.
