We’re at that point where we have warm, beautiful, flip flop days and then a cool, gray, no sunshine day. Tuesday was gorgeous.
Spaghetti Squash was baking in the solar oven.
Clothes were drying in the solar dryer . . aka, the clothesline.
Soaker hoses are lined up and the foundation watering has begun.
The solar well is watering the fruit trees.
A couple of the pear trees are full of blooms. Of all the fruit trees, the pears may be my favorite. I hope they make lots of pears and I hope I’ve lost lots of weight by then because I love pear pie!
Summertime is coming. I’m trying to enjoy the spring-like days because I know what summertime means — heat and grasshoppers!
Are you seeing signs of spring around your home yet or is there still snow on the ground?
Joan says
A bit of snow on the ground in the AM. the news is saying its spring!!! ha. More snow predicted for late weekend. Love springtime. but the fruit trees are beginning to show budding.
Carolyn says
hoping for some sun and warm weather today!
Ruth says
Still a little bit of leftover snow. We had so much of it in February, and it’s still here, but slowly evaporating. Temps in the mid 40’s today.
I”m going out for a spring walk a little later.
Valerie says
Snow still on the ground, rain all night may have taken care of it but it is might get to about 40° today. Yay spring!
Elaine says
I’m waiting for spring, our temps are still in the 32 degree range and will probably be that next week too……I am so tired of being COLD.
Linda Mincher says
Oh, I remember watering the foundation when we lived in Houston! We’re expecting more below freezing temps and possibly snow again the middle of next week here in East TN. I want to get the seedlings in the ground for the garden. I am so ready for spring!
Katie Z. says
The lilac bushed have green buds, the daffodils buds are beginning to swell, there’s green grass perking up for chickens to devour, and the wheat fields around us are growing by leaps and bounds! Of course, frost is still a possibility for the next 6 weeks, but spring is sneaking up on us!
Cathy says
It’s still cold and grey here, and, as I type this, it is snowing. When we get a warm day, you just might here my happy yell all the way down in Texas. LOL!
Helen Koenig1 says
Snow is still on the ground – but it’s in large patches! Hopefully that means that NICE weather is on its way – although the last couple of days have been rather nice – rather chilly in the AM and evening – but nice by afternoon. Sort of like a Colorado morning in early March – darned chilly in morning but you’r thinking of Spring by afternoon! Anyway – neighbours have been dragging out the rakes and Spring decorations! I’d love to as well – but not only is there too much snow but the kids who live upstairs tend to throw parties where the guests trash things.
SaraF says
We had a blizzard on Tuesday, but spring is here today. Unfortunately we know that in SD we can often see significant April snow. So we don’t get too excited this early about spring.
I have to ask – why do you water your foundation? That is something I’ve never heard of. Fascinating!
Sue S says
In Southeast Wisconsin it’s not spring yet! The temps are approaching the 40s, and there are still clumps of dirty snow in the parking lots and shady spots. We might get another dusting but at least it won’t stick around too long. We hope. I’m tired of my winter coat and I’m so done with boots…
Diana in RR,TX says
yes, I think it is safe to say, it is spring in our part of Texas! The red oak is ready to pop so soon will have shade from that tree again. Other bushes are looking good. Not sure if our ornamental pomegranates made it yet. I m not sure what to do with my saffron crocus. They never died off. I finally cut them back about a month ago-they were 8 inches tall! I have one more birthday certificate to use before the end of March so we are heading to Marble Falls this afternoon for a late lunch over looking the river there. Will be a beautiful day for that.
Sheryl says
I never heard of pear pie???
Laura says
We never really had winter here, other than a couple of weeks of cold temps in December and very minimal rainfall. I’m in central California.
Elle says
Just out of curiousity, why are you watering your foundation?
Rebecca in SoCal says
I, too, was wondering about watering the foundation, so I Googled “”Why water foundation” and it auto-completed “in TX” LOL
What I found is that when the dirt gets too dry, it can shift.
Unwanted advice warning: two sites said to put the hose away from the foundation.
JudyL says
For clay soil, which is more typical in Texas, the hose does need to be away from the foundation. For our sandy soil, it needs to be at the foundation and a very, very slow drip.
Marky says
Here in NW Wisconsin we’ve still got quite a bit of snow on the ground…depth of about 14″… with “wintry mix” forecast tonight, snow or rain tomorrow, and colder temperatures for the weekend . Will this Winter never end?!
Carol says
heard today someone in our north central TX area saw a few small grasshoppers this morning. not good news.
Bon says
Still snow on the ground. In fact, about 3-4 feet in my front and back yards. That is because I fill the yards with snow when I blow out the driveway. Where I’ve not blown snow, it’s only about a foot deep. And we got a fresh dusting this morning.
pdudgeon says
even better than the approching Spring, my calendar says that my new splitter for my computer will be here in a few weeks, and a new Spring fabric order will be here on Tuesday. I don’t know which event i’m happiest about; new fabric or being conected on the internet, LOL. After going thru 6 snow storms this Winter, I’ll take pleasure in the smallest changes that come my way.
Kathy says
We are looking at the seed catalog and thinking about what can be started in a few weeks. I still have 3-4 feet of snow on the ground and I know that we can have snow into May. We had 6 inches a few years ago on mother’s day. We don’t even plant until Memorial Day. I’m in Central New York, north of Syracuse.
