This month, we’re going to do an easy one! It’s the split nine patch and hopefully, we can all make a good many of these quickly.
For a 9″ finished block, you will need the following pieces for each block:
- 3 light 3-1/2″ squares
- 3 dark 3-1/2″ squares
- 3 half square triangles, one side light and one side dark, that are 3-1/2″ unfinished
In a week or so, I’ll show you some ideas I have for setting these blocks.
Have fun and make lots of blocks!

I have been doing these in 2-1/2″ size squares and have cleaned out a bunch of old fabrics-those HST’s can multiply like rabbits over the years! Have close to 200 blocks done and pieces just keep coming off my cutting table as I trim down scraps from guild into usable pieces. Next is the layout and sewing of the first of several tops from this fun and addictive little block!

Amazing how life works. Just one half hour ago I was thinking about this BOM and how I would make the quilt a decent size with 12 – 9″ blocks. Then this block was published. Eureka, it’s perfect and I knew as soon as I saw it, what I will do. Don’t you just LOVE those moments? THey don’t come around often enough.

I presented this my guild as block-of-the-month last fall and it was really popular. Bummer though – I didn’t win them! It’s a great block

This has been Bonnie’s leader/ender block for the past several months. I’m ready to set my 80 blocks into a quilt top. 🙂 It goes together so fast and has so many quilt design possibilities. And it’s a fabulous scrap buster!

Fun! I like this block too. Hopefully I will use a fair amount of the bigger scraps with this one.
