We moved into this house two years ago in November. There was no dishwasher. I thought I could make it without a dishwasher. The kitchen was so small that I didn’t want to give up a cabinet in order to have a dishwasher but after about a year and a half, I gave in and decided the dishwasher was a good idea. That gave me one less cabinet and I already had too few cabinets.
This is where the dishwasher would go. None of the cabinets within easy range of the water and drain lines were the right size so the construction guy had to re-do this section.
This is what we ended up with.
We debated and figured and calculated and tried to come up with a way to enlarge the kitchen that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. There was very little room outside without interfering with the driveway, plus we would have to move where the water comes into the house plus we have a metal roof and we didn’t want to mess that up so adding on for a few extra square feet just wasn’t worth it.
That’s when we came up with the plan for the cabinets at one end of the dining area. Here it is all done, cabinet door knobs, under cabinet lights . . done! The drawer handles are not on because the screws that came with them are too short and we keep forgetting to get more. We were lucky to be able to find the same knobs and drawer pulls as were used in the kitchen.
I love the little book case at the end. I still haven’t put all my favorite cookbooks up there.
The left side of the kitchen!
The right side of the kitchen.
Even the paper towels are now off the countertop!
I’m not sure I’ve ever shown a picture of the new cabinets in relation to the kitchen but you can see it here.
The new section about doubled the amount of cabinets and countertop I have. It works for us, and it was the least expensive, least amount of work solution. I love it!
It’s good to be done.

Wow looks great. You and Vince did a great job picking out and getting this done.. Now what is next? Yes we know there are more things to come. A girl can’t just stop nesting once she gets started. Got to make the house yours and yours alone. Just hope Vince doesn’t get moved now for a long while.

Looks nice!! Wish I had room for a dishwasher, but I’ll end up washing dishes by hand till I die, I guess. Isn’t it nice when things work out the way you like? Happy, happy, happy!! Glad you can enjoy it.

Wonderful! It looks even better than I thought it would!
My first thought is that it is perfect for enetertaining! Now you can set up a buffet area on the counter near the table. People can visit the buffet, eat at the table and either watch something on TV (like the Superbowl) or play games together. I love it! Congratulations!

So nice to have it all done. Our whole house was a mess when we gutted the kitchen – but I love it now! Love your white cabinets.

It all looks great, Judy. Those extra cabinets in the dining area make all the difference. Just paint and new flooring worked wonders in my kitchen. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big difference.
