Have you had a good Valentine’s Day? I hope so. I hope you’re all madly in love and have been able to spend good time with your love today!
Vince took off today so we could spend the day together. How sweet! 🙂
There’s a little town about half an hour from here that has an interesting Ace Hardware. You know you’re old when going to an Ace Hardware is exciting. It’s called Mill County General Store and they have everything from meat grinders, jerky making equipment, guns, paint, boots, kitchen items, every Lodge pot you can imagine, lawn mowers, grills, bird feeders and . . boots!
I found a pair of boots that I loved as soon as I walked in the door but talked myself out of getting them. I didn’t even try them on! I ended up getting the cutest little plastic lids that you place on top of glasses and it seals them. I’m always taking a glass of water or lemonade out to the garden and first thing you know, there’s a bug in my glass.
I bought two grapefruit spoons. Who would have thought those were so hard to find but they are. I bought a little clip on gizmo that goes on the side of pots and will hold your stirring spoon. That’s it . . that’s all I got. Vince was in full blown shopping mode and he got several items. From there went went to a feed store, that also had some home dec and boots. We went to another hardware type store and bought a couple of new watering cans for the chickens and a roll of chicken wire.
There are several restaurants in the area that had been recommended and we chose Peabody’s and it was very good. We came home, did a few things around the house then went to Wal-Mart and Kroger and hopefully we don’t have to leave the house again til Vince goes to work on Monday. We’ll see how that goes! 🙂
For dinner tonight, we celebrated!
Steamed lobster, butter, mozzarella/tomato/basil salad and we had brie with gluten free crackers. It was a delicious meal. It was a good Valentine’s Day and I’m glad we got to spend the whole day together! It’s nice to be in love . . after all these years!

You’re right, Judy – being in love after all these years is wonderful (for us, it’s almost 47 years).

Love hardware stores in small towns…especially when they have creaky wood floors. To me, that makes it a real hardware store! My hubby’s way of celebrating was to spray paint a big heart with our initials in it, on the snow bank. Beside it he wrote “Blessed”. That sums it up!

I wish my love was still around. 🙁 But he’s not so I celebrated with my son. It was nice (but I had to pay! HA). When we lived in Pagosa Springs there was a little Ace-type hardware store and they had that wide variety of stuff but also had a corner of the store that was fabric and all that goes with it! AWESOME!

This was a special Valentine’s day for us, as we don’t know how many more we’ll have. My husband was recently diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer, is recuperating from a major surgery, and we are looking at months of radiation and chemotherapy. Every day is a treasure now, and I never miss an opportunity to tell him how much he is loved.

Sounds like the kind of store I might actually be able to spend a lot of time investigating. I’m so happy you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Wish you had a like button … I’d click a big LIKE for Lorraine’s husband and his spraypainted heart on the snowbank. We have lots of snow here in Saskatchewan Canada so we could definitely run with his idea and share the love all over the place!!!!
My husband and I didn’t do anything today but last Saturday night we went to the symphony in the city about 3 hours away. I’d won the tickets on Facebook and they were 11 rows from the front in the very middle so it was like you could reach out and touch the stage. Beethoven’s symphony and cello works. It was lovely and I was so pleased hubby decided to go as he is kind of a Duck Dynasty rednecked garbage truck driving guy that doesn’t “do” culture …. but he did it for me and I think he actually enjoyed it!! And then we stopped and bought pizza and ate it in the truck as we drove — more our redneck style than a romantic after theatre meal! Ah, blessed, indeed.

How lovely! A very nice day with each other. Louis was home today too, we did not do too much except enjoy one another’s company, which was just right. 🙂
Happy Valentine’s Day to you too. Hope your weekend is as lovely as your day today.

Fun reading about your day and reading the comments. We had an ordinary day, but we did have lunch at a really good Bar-B-Q near our house. Then at supper we each looked at cards we had bought for each other over the years and selected two to regive this year. It really was a sweet time. Then we celebrated with a couple of Fannie Mae Mint Meltaways that we had gotten in Illinois when we were there in Dec. And we topped it off with a telephone call to our daughter in California. Nothing like four grandchildren telling us they loved us and wished us a happy Valentines Day.

I love ACE Hardware, and have since a young lady; it isn’t age, it’s what they have there! Awesome store. Regarding the lids you found, I will go look for some, also. Recently bought drinking glasses with those snap-on plastic lids. Best part – they fit my standard coffee cups, too! I stumble around the house these days with a cane in one hand, and getting a regular cup to the table is impossible without spilling. ( do also love the stainless mugs with screw-on lids.) But the new convenience these snap-on lids adds to regular cups is a real boon!

Judy, good for you!
We just got home and it is 2:41 am here in CA. Went out to dinner and an Air Supply Concert at the Casino. It was great and our seats were fantastic. Talk about singing love songs. We saw them last year and it was better this year.
Then we played penny machines (once we could get on them) for awhile and we made detours on the way home as all the roads were blocked off for Obama and his visit here. Time for bed. Going to download Air Supply music on my iPod tomorrow.
Glad that you had such a great day together. We did too!

I thought about you this weekend. We went to San Angelo for a concert. We get off the freeway at Cisco and go through Cross Plains and Coleman. Everytime I saw the Brownwood sign I would think of you.
