A day early . . the baby chicks are here!
They were shipped from Ideal Poultry yesterday and we were expecting them tomorrow. We went in together with someone Vince works with and they got the call this morning from the post office that our chicks had arrived.
We got 10 Golden Sex Links and 3 White Black Tailed Japanese Bantams.
They all arrived alive . . apparently healthy, definitely active and noisy. They’ll reside in the extra bathroom for a few days or weeks or til we can’t stand it any more. They have to be kept at 90º for a week, then 85º for a week and continue dropping the temp by 5 degrees each week til their temp reaches the same as the outside temp. They’ll probably stay in the house for a couple of weeks and then we can put them in the barn and keep them at 75º or 80º in a big tub over there. They have to be big enough to not be able to get through the chicken wire before we put them in the outside pens. I’m thinking they’ll start laying close to the end of May or first of June.
If you want to see a video of them . . here ya go!

I do so love my baby chicks. When I weeded my flock in 2012, I must have weeded my broodies too.
Had to order some chicks to raise for broodies last year. Maybe this year I can hatch a few.
