Bacon . . Lots of Bacon!

Yesterday while out running errands, I ran into Kroger for one thing. You know how that goes . . there are always more things that jump into the cart. As I was passing by the bacon area, I noticed one of the bacon brands that we like on sale. The bacon was in big (2.25 pound) packages but it was on sale for about $3.50 per pound. I grabbed five packages.

With the FoodSaver, it was a snap to vacuum seal all the bacon into smaller packages.

The bacon was put up in 3/4 pound packs and I got three packs from each large package so we have 15 packages of bacon on the freezer now.

This is one of the best ways I find to save money on the grocery bill . . by finding items that are on sale or packaged in big packages that sell for less per pound and can be broken down into smaller packages at home.

The price of bacon is outrageous and we eat it fairly often so this was a great find for us.

We love bacon especially for BLT. I cook mine in the oven all at one time, drain it well and then freeze it for eating. Really is easier than frying it.

No only is it helpful to have the savings, but it is great to be able to reach into the freezer or pantry to have ingredients for a meal! On more than one occasion I have entertained several people in addition to my family, at the last minute with things from the freezer or pantry! I also fry (or rather bake) my bacon before I freeze it. Makes life so much easier when you are in a hurry.

    Mmmmm Bacon!

You really have to do your own one of these days. I can’t even describe how good it is. Now I must go cook some. My new favorite salad-lettuce, tomato, bacon with avocado dressing.

What a score! The brand we like is up to 17.00/lb. So, needless to say, we haven’t purchased bacon for a long time!

These are great posts, when you show how you use your foodsaver! I picked one up at an estate sale for $15 (older model) under the Judy influence. I need to buy the tops to use for jars.

Oh NO! Now I’m going to have to go BACK to Kroger and check the bacon. I’ve always packaged mine into smaller packs (usually cut the pieces in half then put in sandwich bags). But that would also be great for my niece whose two rugrats eat bacon like they breathe air!! LOL

I also love my Food Saver. It’s only me here (well, and the dog!) but I shop at Costco and package everything up smaller. I find that when I go to the grocery store (which is rare) I get sticker shock. I don’t know how most families can shop and eat on limited budgets.

We always get our bacon at Sam’s. Guess that’s one reason we keep renewing there! Get the thick slice hickory smoke. Let the bacon expert( Galen) pick out the packs. Then do it into smaller packs for us and Dad. WE don’t eat it as often as we used too so having the smaller packs means none goes to waste.

We buy our bacon in bulk from Sprouts Farmers Market. Along with breakfast sausage. Once a month I go in and buy 5-10 lbs (depending on how much we have left from the month before), cut it up so it can be used for sandwiches. Then seal it up, for both bacon and sausages. We really like the fresh bacon, sausage and its nice to have it handy.
