Last night the first sleeve was finished on my Brier Island sweater. I love it. How weird is it that so far, I’ve made (or almost made) two sweaters and love them both? That’s one of the reasons I was hesitant to make a sweater — the fit! It will happen I’m sure . . I will make a sweater that I’m not pleased with but if I’m so “not pleased” with it that I won’t wear it, I’ll unravel it and use the yarn for something else. How’s that for cheap entertainment? So . . if you’re not making a sweater because you’re afraid you won’t like it . . that excuse is no good . . come up with another one! 🙂
If I don’t get that sleeve finished today, I will get it finished tomorrow. We don’t have much cold weather left in this area and I want to wear it at least once this winter. As soon as I finish it, I will soak and block it so it may be a week or so before you see a photo of me wearing it.
Laura Aylor is the designer of this sweater and so far, I’ve really liked her designs.

Great looking sweater! I have to admit that I’ve been a long-time reader of your blog, but rarely comment. But I wanted to you to know that you have been my inspiration to try my hand at knitting. I picked up a hank of fingering yarn and some Addi turbos before Christmas and made a simple shawl/scarf over the holidays. Since then I’ve purchased more yarn, another set of needles for socks and have cast on 2 new projects. I’m slowly teaching myself new knitting stitches for another scarf and how to knit socks. I’ve been searching through your previous posts for links to various knitting resources and have found your commentary very useful. I’m loving every minute of it!

Sweater looks really nice! I’ve made one sweater for myself years ago, and after it sitting around for 10-15 years, I finally threw it out. I had no idea there were different ways to bind off, and mine wouldn’t go over my head. It was really pretty, too, but at that time I had no clue how to fix it. Wish I had it back now.

Judy I think you should take a poll on how many of us you have influenced to take up knitting. I bet there are a lot of us!!!

Then I’d find out how many husbands are mad at me! 🙂

Oh you’ve got to stop! You’re going to give me the knitting bug again and I don’t want it! LOL I keep forgetting to ask you, have you ever tried the Sweater Wizard software by Carole Wulster ( I think I have her name right). You can plug in your needle size and gauge, and design a sweater using whatever yarn you want because it will re-calculate with your gauge. It’s wonderful, VERY easy to use.

I have not used that but I will check it out. Thanks!

You are a knitting ninja! And I am jealous. 😉
My sweater is taking me forever! I finally started sleeves today.

Forgot to add how great the sweater looks. 🙂

Thanks!

I don’t have a whole lot going on right now. Soon knitting will be put on the back burner and gardening will take over.

Judy~~may I make a suggestion? Knit both sleeves at the same time. Use -2- balls of yarn on the same needle. That way, they are both exactly the same (number of rows, etc.) and you’re done with both at the same time!
JudyL says
That would be way too frustrating for me since the sleeves are attached to the sweater and are not sewn in. By the time I had the bulk of the sweater, the 8 dpns (4 for each sleeve), 2 balls of yarn and a dog in my lap, I’d probably give up knitting.
I use a row counter so the sleeves will come out the same and the knitting will be much more enjoyable for me.

PS… is that a standard dress form? Who’d of thought to use one for knitting? 🙂
JudyL says
It is .. from Wal-Mart. I had a nice dress form but gave it away when I thought I’d never make clothes again.

looking great! i like how the yarn pools. you won’t find that in a comercially made sweater!
JudyL says
I love the pooling too. It’s more obvious in the photos than in real life though.
