Several had the same questions so I’ll just answer them in a blog post. How’s that for lazy?
- How did the mouse get the batting? I had a black trash bag that had several large leftover scraps of batting. Since I work off a roll of batting mostly, sometimes I have some good sized scraps so I had saved a few pieces for baby quilts of for making dog quilts for the animal shelter. The black trash bag was in a box upstairs in the shop . . with the boxes that had never been unpacked. The tub of wood was up there too. The mice had been in that bag of batting.
- Why don’t we get a feral cat? The folks at the animal shelter here have told us that a feral cat lasts about a year in this area. We have too many wild critters out there. In fact, the last two nights the coyotes have made so much racket not far from our bedroom window that it woke me up both nights. I had to get up and close the window last night. From time to time I do see cats out there so I’m guessing there are at least three around at any given time but there are so many mice and other things for the cats to feed on, it would take more than a few cats to keep the entire mouse population at bay. So far, I have not seen a mouse or evidence of a mouse inside the house or the sewing room. When that happens . . and I know it will . . I may try to find a whole herd of feral cats but for now .. traps will keep enough of them out of the shop to keep me happy.
There was a third thing and I can’t remember what it was. If y’all have questions . . just ask and I’ll be . . nevermind . . I know what it was.
How did I know that having the overhang on the granite was the right way? There is no “right” or “wrong” way really . . except that I had an overhang on most of the sink . . just not in two areas. That was wrong. Whatever you have should be uniform. I knew that I wanted the overhang and had specifically discussed it with the granite people before the granite was ever cut and that’s why I wasn’t happy with (1) not having what we had agreed upon and (2) definitely not happy with having the inconsistent edge. If you search for “granite undermount sink overhang”, you’ll get all kinds of info and photos. Some people want a flush mount, some want the sink edge to show a bit and some want an overhang. Whatever each person wants is what’s right.
I’m happy with the granite company’s installation and I’m 100% pleased with the way they handled our job. Anyone can make a mistake, they did and it was an expensive mistake for them because they not only had to replace the granite but they had to pay the installer twice since he’s a contract installer. They are going to build a cabinet the exact same size as mine and use the first piece for display in their shop. Probably nine out of 10 people will never notice the cutout error.
OK . . I think I’ve covered the questions that were asked several times.
