We had ordered 10 red sex link hens and they were to be shipped next Wednesday (the 15th). Tuesday night Vince and I were talking about the chickens . . yes, we have very deep conversations late at night, and I said I sure wished I could get another chicken like Roscoe. Remember Roscoe? He and Miss Hattie were such a funny pair.
He was such a pretty little rooster but he had a mind of his own and was going to do what he darned well pleased . . nothing more and nothing less.
This was a battle Vince did not win! Roscoe so loved Miss Hattie. Even when she was inside the pen, he would run along the outside of the pen right beside her. Then she learned to escape the pen and they spent their day wandering the yard.
Anyway, I told Vince Tuesday night that I wish I could get another Black Tailed White Japanese Bantam rooster so yesterday morning, he called the hatchery. We cannot order a rooster . . just straight run, which means mixed . . hens and roosters, so he added 3 of them to our order. They won’t have any of these til the 22nd so the hatchery is going to hold our entire order til January 22nd and we’ll have them on the 24th.
Now, we have 13 chickens ordered. See how easy it is to get more chickens than you planned to get?

That happened with our guineas! Now we have 12, and they are quite a flock!

Just wait until spring rolls around and the local tractor supply has chicks. They are soooo cute and so hard to resist!…….as you know!!!!

Guess chickens are like yarn and fabric – you always get more than you need!! 🙂
Sherrill says
And you already have 5 or 6? You’re gonna have a whole HERD of chickens! LOL Glad you’re jumping back in with the chickens.
Judy D in WA says
Then you will take trips to Tractor Supply and come home with a couple more and a couple more and a couple more. Anyhow that’s how I’m planning my spring! 🙂
Can’t wait to see your new babies.
Sharon in Michigan says
I’ve always wondered how well it worked to have chickens mailed – seems very strange. We always go to TSC. I’d like to get some cool ones like you so I guess we’ll give the “send away” thing a try. Enjoy!
Frankie says
I hope you get your rooster! Roscoe sure was a pretty rooster — I can definitely see why you’d want another.

If I had room for chicken’s I’d have to add a Banty or two. They are so colorful and have pretty eggs. Small but pretty. I used to love to feed the chickens and was pretty good at collecting the eggs. A long time ago.

Jan. 22 is my grand daughters birthday, good day. You will get what you are looking for.
As for delivery, my daughter is a rural mail carrier and hears all the little chicks calling for there mother. About drivers her nuts.

I do believe chickens rate right up there with fabric, yarn, and food. Can’t have too many of any of it!
Diana from SC says
Wishing you luck on another “Roscoe” rooster. Very colorful.
Sheri says
Looking forward to hearing about the new chicken characters that call your place home!
Linda M says
Wow, Roscoe was a beauty! Good luck with the new chickens.

I am so happy that you are getting back into the chicken mode! I know how dreadful things were a month ago but now you can begin anew and get back in the swing of things. Good for you!
Joanne Caglione says
Hi Judy,
What hatchery are you getting your chicks from?
Thanks,
Jo
